Who would anyone be dumb enough to buy FTP, there stuck 150 mil, and no way can clean up their image. Then they would have to compete with the USA market that would also open up a ton of Online sites which I am sure a 100% cheating scandals would break out everywhere because people are greedy F$%#s!

Interesting. I've traveled many states (CA to Maine), and Kentucky is the only one I've seen that sign in.

Wow, go back to making chicken, etc etc.

Joking aside, the chicken rocks but this is crazy.

Sidenote: You can't sign up at Cake if you live in the commonwealth of Kentucky, not sure about other sites.

infuriating how everyone thinks this. the state is soooo concerned with "protecting" us until they want to offer a game that rapes worse than casino games (lottery)

fu Kentucky. I really hope this cant affect the sale at all, but if it does, KY better be paying back players as the owner of ftp and all

It's not like I could pass a law making those other businesses illegal (and mine explicitly legal) in my town/State because I said so...oh wait, that's exactly what Kentucky did.

Don't sweat it guys the local politicians are mostly just making noise for the coming elections and also trying to extort a little money for themselves as always. The govenor is in the pockets of the horse industry! As to poker we have very liberal "home game" laws, and lots of gambling on horses and a huge tobbaco and liquor industry (plus a fairly healthy cash crop of other smokables less legal). This is NOT a MORAl issue here. As usual it is "thugs in suits" hustling for every dime they can grab!

i live in kentucky and i wear shoes.

this is obviously a political grab.

of course there is the horse racing industry and their dollars. the governor tried hard to pass casino gambling a few years ago and failed because the miserable prick in the senate wouldn't even let it get to a vote screaming family values all the while he was going over to indiana and gambling millions himself.... but i digress....

the way the attorney general is justifying this ridiculous suit is based on an old OLD law that says gambling in KY is illegal and (i'm paraphrasing here) anyone that loses to a casino that operates in ky can go back and ask for their money back.... if the losing player doesn't ask for his money back then ANYONE in the state can ask for the money.

well, the A.G. is taking up the roll of "anyone" and wanting the money for themselves.

its ridiculous.

and now that i type that it makes no sense why they want to obtain those domain names.

GD my state is backwards. I will NEVER, EVER get to play online poker again while living here.

Serious question: when are Americans finally going to rise up and stop taking all this bull**** from their governments?

I'll quote V for Vendetta... People shouldn't fear their government. Governments should fear their people.

KY does have some curious laws on gambling. I made a road trip to Lexington, Kentucky (it was voluntary) last year and was totally stunned that they literally have no casinos.

The race tracks had to fight tooth and nail to get Instant Racing machines, which are the least desireable form of electronic gambling one could imagine. The democrats actually passed legislation to legalize traditional slot machines, but they were undermined the 'family value' Republicans. And getting these quasi-slots has been subjected to numerous challenges by the social conservatives.

Of course, if you like horse racing you're in the best place in the US! They have extremely high quality racing with the lowest take-outs in the country (i.e. Keeneland, Churchill Downs). Plus, the TwinSpires online platform is the best ADW software in the business. I was stunned that at Keeneland, they have draw-thru betting. You can place wagers without even leaving your automobile. Plus, you can fund your Twinspires account at numerous locations including Churchill Downs.

It's truly a shame that online poker isn't legal, especially given how convenient and inexpensive it is to fund ones account through the legal ADW's.

And it should be noted that the horse racing industry is a big proponent of alternative gaming as a means of propping up their struggling industry. Currently, they've tried to adopt a racino model whereby they offer casino gambling at the track. That being said, there has been a newfound interest in using online poker as a means of subsidizing the horse industry (I'm specifically thinking about CA where the tracks shot themselves in the foot by refusing a profit-sharing deal w/ the tribes). Perhaps online poker enthusiasts and horsemen could align their interests and expedite the return of online poker. At least it would give us more political clout as the racing industry (with its super rich and politically connected owners) has the ear of our politicians.

Side note: I read the Terms and Conditions of my Twinspires account and discovered that it's against the law to place wagers is several states. In fact, one risks losing their account and criminal prosecution. So on my road trip I had to be very careful not to make horse bets in certain states. I mention this because there's a widely held misconception that online horse wagering is legal in all the states.

Seriously this **** has got to stop.

Our protectionism will ruin the internet if we continue to allow this to happen.

ICANN needs to move to some small country and tell all the governments they have no authority over domain names.

Very cute, TeflonDawg.

One might note that I've stopped using my trademark sig line. Unfortunately, I did an online search for my own screen name and noticed several individuals found it very annoying --not that the content of my posts exactly soothes the soul ;-)

Sadly for every one person that's outraged by the government there are 100 that only care about who's gonna get voted off American Idol.

Most people are frighteningly simple minded and only concern themselves with the trivial details of their day to day lives (what am I gonna eat for dinner, what's on tv tonight, what bar am I gonna go to on Friday, who's gonna win the football game on Monday night, etc.)

I live in Lexington, and its an absolutely beautify town/city. Keeneland is fantastic. The only way this town can improve however is to add a casino...
