Given that this is a Poker News and Gossip forum, the fact that she's a female professional player seems relevant. Otherwise the thread would have been shut down long ago.

So gays change "gay" from its proper usage, and that is ok with you, but any FURTHER change is not apparently.

I confess, no I don't understand your inconsistent hypocrisy, it looks like the very common strain of "i'm more politically correct than you" bandwagon jumping that is so common.

So, to be clear, the fact that I find the use of the word gay to mean homosexuals offensive means you've got my back when I take gays to task for using it incorrectly right?

This is USA's problem, not England's or ROW, as always they get themselves in this ****... i see no problem with "gay" if its common in England

Hmmm, calling people ******s and morons for just discussing a topic on the internet is business as usual for you? I think your meter must be tilted.

It might be common among younger people and those who are illiterate who are easily influenced into wanting to sound "cool." But it doesn't make sense to anyone of moral character or intelligence.

Maybe this one will make more sense to you:

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

But if you're asking if I think it's okay for LGBT men to take others to task for calling stuff "gay" then do the same thing themselves, no, I don't think that's okay. I have the same problem with black people calling each other ******. If the term is offensive, it's offensive no matter who is using it, IMO. The whole "reclaiming" the word argument is pretty dumb, IMO.

And I'm also aware that gay, until relatively recently, meant happy. However, the number of times people actually use it this way nowadays, without trying to be funny or making a covert joke, is pretty rare from what I've seen. The meanings of words change over time, in this case changing such that the "happy" definition of gay has almost completely disappeared from common usage.

That's not to say I use the term myself thou', I just aware that we attach less of a stigma to the word - it has many other meanings
ya so ironic that i would expect people participating in a high profile international event to not be bigots to people they dont even know

I think it was on a segment of High Stakes Poker when somehow the question was put to the players of what actor or actress they would like to have play them in a "poker" movie and she said Matt Damon. No one cracked a smile or said anything. Thats like asking Kirk Douglas to play Martin Luther King.

BTW, the history of the term "gay bet" is pretty long on 2p2. Years ago it was coined as betting out of position into the raiser. People took offense to it and it changed to 'donk bet.'

That's not true. Before 2+2 existed it was called a gay bet in the UK.

Any bet to build a pot or that is small is a gay bet. Nothing to do with position. Gay as in "everyone will be happy to call this bet".

A strong percentage of well known English players are LGBT, they say it too. Has nothing to do with homosexuality. You could call it a Brighton (gay capital of UK) bet if you wanted to make a joke about its second entendre.

Try randomly calling a black person on the street "a XXXXing black guy", shrug your shoulders and explain yourself. This also works with Polish, Catholics, Germans, Italians and some Women too.

Please report back with your results. We will need a large sample across a broad spectrum.

Maybe there is an interesting story in there somewhere but how annoying it was to read that made me miss it completely

Do you feel the same way about promiscuous feminist women reclaiming the word "slut"?

Wow..

Really cannot comprehend at all getting the slightest bit worked up by 'gay bet'. Sheesh, really, so many other things in life to give a damn about. Also, I hate the gay 'championing' in this thread. Just wow.

Oh and before any gay people decide to give me crap...

I'm a ****ing lesbian. True story.
