Every day some moron tells everyone he found a way to make poker better, now it’s my turn.

Introducing the Poker Premier League

20 pros battle it out over 19 rounds to see who is the best.

Each round is a heads up match based on the same set of cards. 100 random heads up hands are worked out and then get played. 10 players get seat A, 10 players get seat B and they play against each other in pairs, A vs B. Assume they play Limit Hold’em.

At the end of the match, say its 100 hands, each player has a total profit or loss. Then the players are compared against the other players who played their seat and given points based on how well they did.

Whoever has the highest profit (or smallest loss) from seat A gets 10 points, 8 points for 2nd, etc. The same points are awarded to those ranked from seat B.

Games are played at the same time so you would play consistently right to the end; you could be down $1000 but still be winning.

In round 2 a new set of 100 hands are dealt and played. After 19 rounds everyone has played everyone and someone has the most points. They are the winner.

Has anything like this ever been tried?

Firstly I am proposing this only as an awesome idea for spectators and people who want to prove that they are the best. Obviously if this were ever played regularly/online people would realise how much they sucked and no one would make any money. Poker for pride not $$$.

Secondly, it would be difficult to get 20 pros to show up every Saturday for 19 weeks and have like a poker season but it’s a cool idea anyway. I would watch it.

Also, you could probably do it with NL games and you would just rebuy whenever you wanted. You could also work out a league for six max or full ring but I’m not sure if mathematically everyone could play everyone else once.

Also, forgive me if this has been discussed many times before, just shut down the thread.

I never said play money, they can still play each game for 100k, over pay an entry fee, or have prize money from TV/sponsors

anyway, just thought it would be interesting to watch

Tips on how to present an idea:

1. Make sure the title line matches the body of the post

2. Don't mix too many ideas together: "duplicate" + HU + 20 players + league + spectators + limit....

Pick one or two core ideas and push that.

I think the "best essence" of your post would be this:

"Is duplicate HU poker a viable form of TV entertainment?"

My answer: yes I think it would be an interesting variation to see every now and then, mainly to see how different players play the same hand. The downside is that to make it "duplicate" format, they'd either have to use computers/ProTeks or rig the deck every hand.

Poker played where it matters financially is different than two-bit limit, one-eyed Jacks wild.

If you play where you can get hurt, it is different. That's why those white-shirt Vegas dealers are so easy to run over with a big stack. Bet 'em the rent, watch them sweat. Tell them, "Save enough for a bus ticket to Henderson."

Poker as a sport is often tilted one person's way before the game starts. The best player with a nice bankroll versus a good player who "has to win."
