The absolute best case scenario is that you get your money back at a later date, sans interest.

Is it because you want to look cool in front of people? Is it because you want a TV pro to like you?

Staking I can at least comprehend, but why so intelligent people continue to lend money to basically strangers? Is it some social pressure when you are a poker pro to help out a fellow pro?
If you and the lendor/lendee have a close personal relationship, I can see it being okay. I've had agreements multiple times with a friend where one stakes the other or we agree to share winnings. But we also definitely do NOT softplay each other, as we are both uber competitive and don't care about the +EV for playing against each other (there's usually a last longer bit included in these agreements that are more than the buyin lol)

Long story short, if you trust the person, go for it. If you don't know them well enough, just say "sorry, I don't know you well enough"

Pro tip for people people who hit a big score and have investors. Deposit all the money in your bank, then write each investor a check for their share. The paper trail will help a lot in case you get audited.

Germans don't pay taxes on gambling winnings and Russians who carry around half a mill in a duffle bag just pay bribes.

A week goes by, and my friend randomly gets paid. imagine that.Violence IS the answer. If there is a deterrant the scammer will usually pay. Most of the time the scammer doesnt pay is because they know nothing will happen.
The carrot and stick. A dynamic that exists at all levels of society in both a macro and micro level.

There’s no such thing as trust. There’s mutual self interest.
