I seriously doubt these people are maintaining a solid enough credit profile to keep cards paid off, and balances low enough to cover hotels and flights. Are the backers paying for all of this?

There are definitely times in life where I wish you could settle matters this way without fear of legal recourse. I had an incident recently where this would have settled things quickly without dragging things out. Sometimes I think this response keeps things orderly. However, these days because people know that there are legal ramifications concerning anything intimidating or physical, and people being dissuaded from enforcing anything of that nature, those that have mal-intent are more inclined to do people dirty, knowing that they can get away with it to an extent... At least the physical repercussions.
