Using violence is never worth the (severe) legal jeopardy you face no matter what the problem or what the result (unless you're the government). That being said, you can understand why someone scammed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars would want to kick his ass even if the ass-kicking carried with it no chance of regaining the money. This is especially true if it was apparent that the scammer faced no consequences (legal or otherwise) for his actions.

- It won't get you your money back. He's not going to say "welp, he kicked the **** out of me, better go run to the bank real quick". If it doesn't work the first time are you going to do it a second time and run the risks all over again?

- It may not be the first time this guy's gotten his kicked, so there's no guarantee that it matters to him or that he hasn't accepted an ass-kicking as one of the risks associated with scamming others.

- The guy whose ass you're trying to kick may himself be a bad cat and kick your ass instead.

- Villain might be packing a firearm or a knife.

- Villain may know people who can retaliate on his behalf.

- It's not 1970 anymore, and you can't just pound knots on someone's head because they owe you money. If you kick someone's ass unprovoked that person can contact the police and press charges. He can hire a lawyer with your money and take you to court. And it's overwhelmingly likely that he'll win, and you'll not only be out the money he stole from you, but now you'll be on the hook for damages, medical costs, lawyer costs for both parties, court fees, possibly fines and/or jail time, and possibly a criminal conviction on your record.

What a terrible post. Im just curious if god forbid someone kills or rapes your mother or wife or loved one, are you going to "let it go thru the legal channels"?? Im curious? Do you believe in the death penalty>?

Im over 30 now, but when i was 19 i was heavily involved with sportsbetting, at that time, i usually won or lost 5k a week and never had any issues collecting. One week my closest degen friend won 35k and was not paid. Week after week we saw the bookie collect and collect from all the losers and always have an excuse to not pay the 35k. My friend eventually asked for 1k a week, couldnt even get that. Couldnt even get 500. The bookie clearly had hue amounts of money and chose not to pay my friend the 35k Over 2 months go by and the bookie eventually says"i dont want your business because i dont like how you bet"He said that to my friend.

The very next week my friend went to the bookie and said"you pay me on X day or youll be sorry" The day came and no payment was made. My friend then easily got 2 crackhead bumbs and paid them each 400 dolllars to beat the F out of the bookie in the bathroom with a a "pay the 35k debt" message or youll be visited again"

A week goes by, and my friend randomly gets paid. imagine that.Violence IS the answer. If there is a deterrant the scammer will usually pay. Most of the time the scammer doesnt pay is because they know nothing will happen.

You also need to remember you are dealing with thugs who dont go cry to the law, and if youarent a complete idiot, its very easy to get dirty work done without being connectted to it.

In my opinion if a guy like Chino was properly taken care of, he will pay just to get that debt out of the way and move on. Theres also the chane he doesnt even have the money. He probably saw 10% of that recent score anyway maybe less.''

If you take violence against someone who is 100% not ever going to pay you then you at least have your pride and know you arent a btch and did what you can and tried.

Here's a test everyone can do in the good ol' USA. Take out a marker at a casino and don't pay it. Don't pay your taxes (income/property/payroll), vehicle registration, or traffic tickets, etc. and watch what happens.

The 'government' will send people with guns to your home to collect. If you don't pay they will extract you from your home with tear gas, SWAT team, or some other method of force and take you to jail where more violence will be likely committed upon your person.

They will take you to civil court to collect, not send the militia

Do you live in the USA?? We have the 2nd amendment for a reason so the government doesn't overreach like this. If you don't pay a marker the casino will sue you if you don't pay taxes the IRS sends you a letter if you dont pay registration you just don't have a registered vehicle if you don't pay traffic tickets it will take more than a couple for them to issue you a warrant.

Great....1st for ownership yet only 10th in the world for firearm-related death rates, so all's OK then.....and proportionally 77 times as likely to die each year by firearm homicide compared to the UK.....great stuff

I've had a few experiences like this in my life as well and handled them a little differently. On the poker front, big TJ once sat next to me in a $1,500 tournament and was friendly as could be, until the break, when he asked me to front him $3,000 until the next day when he had money coming in. I told him to wait until after the break. I saw Men Nuygen in the restroom and asked him about TJ. He told me that whatever money I loaned to TJ would be gone forever. Now I went back to the table and TJ gave me a big smile, until I told him NO I wouldn't loan him the money. He made an angry face and never talked to me again.

Another time I made a saver with John Phan when we were both at the final few tables of the $2,000 Limit Hold'em at the WSOP. He knew me from cash games in L.A. We saved 5% and I ended up finishing 5th for 35K. I went downstairs and found him in a cash game and handed him $1,750. He smiled and said thanks. I went home and came back the following week. We both played in the Limit Shootout tourney where you have to win your table to continue. Again we saved 10%. I didn't make it but John did and ended up finishing 9th for a little over 10K. He owed me 500. I saw him walking out with two other guys and he told me that he was in with other people and could only give me 300. I was too shocked and surprised to say anything and he handed me 300 and kept walking.

It was only 200 but I was totally pissed. I decided I was going to get paid the next time I saw him. It was a year later at the WSOP and his picture was on the cover of Card Player that month. I hated looking at it. On my first day there I'm talking with Tony Ma and telling him about my encounter with Phan and he agreed that I should do something. Lo and behold, who should come walking towards us but the man himself, all smiling and full of himself. Once again he had two guys with him. I walked right up and got in his face. I asked him if he remembered me. He acted confused. I reminded him about our agreement from the year before and told him he still owed me 200. He was unsure what to say and stammered something like oh yeah I remember now. I mean I was right up in his face and ready for whatever came next. I was not taking NO for an answer!

He slowly reached in his pocket and pulled out a wad and peeled off 200. I took it and told him to never talk to me again and he hasn't. As far as I'm concerned I don't care if John reads this or not. He is what he is and I am who I am and that's the name of this tune.

I'm assuming "saved" means swapped & you meant to say that you swapped 5% on the second occasion with JP because 10% would have been 1K not $500.

Thanks, that was my mistake. We did "save/swap" 5% both times, and he only owed me $500.

This stuff always kills me with these degens. If you are going to have the money coming in tomorrow, then go eat a big meal, take a nap, and when you wake up tomorrow you will have your money and I don't have to do a thing. They are literally like junkies scrambling to get their next fix right now.

From what I understand TJ has a life long addiction to playing Craps and losing! That's where most of his winnings and whatever he could borrow have gone.
