New video from CNBC briefly touches on poker staking/backing, the online poker boom, and other topics.

There are a handful of poker people featured in the 20-minute video.

Overall it seems like a pretty fair representation.

Remember when Poker used to have big winners from the game? Now it's steamers making money from streaming, not winning.

Good old days.

+1

I did have to laugh at the woman "proud" of being backed buried in makeup.

In fairness:
- She was proud of being backed, not of being in makeup
- Being in makeup is not uncommon among tournament players, since even those with +EV often need to play a bunch for their edge to be manifested.

Need to make a segment on legislation ****ing up the program and how our "representatives" are bought little whores being pimped out by big casinos. This is worthless drivel that woulda been entertaining 10 years ago.

I have already seen one too many commercial advertisements on that channel promoting the Venetian and Sands Bethlehem casinos by Sheldy. Unfortunately, when that happens I cannot flip the channel fast enough. Oh well, what ya gonna do?

This is a 22 minute ad for staking websites. Don't waste your time.

This may be a paid advertisement but I thought it was well worth watching. LoL @ staking being the life blood of professional poker though. More like staking is the life blood of broke tournament players chasing 5 minutes of fame.

I got the 'informercial' vibe from it too and wondered if I should post it. I did because it's a new clip that had commentary from poker people that don't typically get mainstream coverage. But I see the point you and others are making.

Well they talked about live tournaments, don't even see how anyone can play the MTT ones for a living without without staking and heavy swaps

Yes, it is humorous that they equated professional poker to grinding live tournaments especially when you consider most of these staked tournament players don't earn enough to support themselves solely through poker.

Agreed. CNBC = liberal news corporation, pushing an agenda. You can't expect a balanced view.

Damn, Ryan did not look healthy in that segment. I am guessing it was likely a combination of poor lighting and being tired, but compared to what I remembered of him after he won the PLO event, it just seemed like he seriously needs time in the sunlight.

I watched Lex stream for a bit the other day and he had something like 12k people watching. At some point it said that he had over 4K subscribers. At $5/mo/subscriber that's $20k per month he's pulling in every month just by streaming. Obviously that fluctuates and maybe it's high now because of SCOOP, but you can conservatively estimate that he makes $15k every month solely from Twitch.

He's put in a lot of work and kudos to him, but that's crazy money.

Hi ckimoney:

It certainly had some aspects of that. But it did say that there were players deep in make-up who would quit poker, and I don't think if that was an infomercial that would have been included.

Best wishes,
Mason
