This is one of the most anticipated poker events in recent memory. But unfortunately for almost everyone it will not be a suspenseful night of television on ESPN. The 24 hour delay makes it difficult for anyone who interacts with people, watches the news or even enters a casino not to find out the eventual winner.

If you live in Vegas, or even anywhere near a casino, it will be nearly impossible not to know who won the WSOP main event before it airs.

Is anyone doing anything special to avoid finding out who is the eventual winner the 24 hours prior to the telecast?

I'll be in my Y2K bunker. NVG is welcome to join me.

No I'm not, live poker really isn't as exciting as sporting events that you could do the whole 'not find out if you can't watch the game' sort of thing.

I may have the radio coverage on in the background of whatever im doing that day if i remember

Don't jump the gun on the NVG sticky Chainsaw.

The delay from reaching heads-up to conclusion will be longer than last year, since play should end after midnight on the 8th and resume late in the evening on the 9th.

It seems the easiest way to avoid finding out is to stay away from the Internet, television, newspapers and other people from Saturday morning until Tuesday night.

How do you control the forum from spoilers?

You don't, that's why I added staying away from the Internet.

I was a little surprised there was a vocal minority of people who didn't want to know who was heads-up/winner last year.

Are you saying most people want to know in advance?

I'd think most people who were overly concerned about this would be able to avoid logging onto 2+2 for 24 hours. I've heard that around hour 16 you might get the shakes, but they'll pass.

Considering the thousands of posts in the WSOP Main Event threads in NVG, yes.

When the FT thread starts on the 7th, it will be noted that there's (SPOILERS ITT). Also, I'm sure myself and whomever is following the coverage and moderating NVG will be trying their best to move other threads that bring up "spoilers" into the main thread or deleting outright.

I don't think knowing who wins a live tournament after the tournament is over counts as "in advance".

Personally, I'm interested in knowing who wins as it happens, but I understand people wanting to wait to see it on tv. You'd pretty much have to turn off all social networking sites, not play any live or online poker, basically not turn on your computer for an entire day.

If u live in vegas, along with what you stated, youd have to not leave your house, or you surely would find out.

hide in your house for 4 days so you can see espn show 10/500 hands.
good plan.

I think you can do normal non-casino stuff. I don't think the average person, even in Vegas, is going to know who won before it's shown on TV (and even then, most residents probably don't care very much).

Honestly, this was the lamest arguement I heard last year. It's not that hard. If you seriously don't want to know who won then don't go on 2plus2, cardplayer, pokernews, etc. for 2 days. Seriously, it's not that hard. Don't play live poker. Turn off your chat online and if you watch ESPN, be careful.

The critics of ESPN last year for revealing the winner don't understand what ESPN is. The purpose of sportscenter is to report sports related news. It's just like during the Olympics, they report the winners of medals as they happen because that is their responsibility. Get over it. Last year people were whinning about posts talking about the winner even though they were inside a thread title ME Final Table or whatever...

You would think ESPN might reconsider that this year since if they say Ivey isnt the winner they could lose alot of final table viewership.

Why? Just stay out of casinos/poker rooms and don't go on 2+2. The chances that you will somehow be bombarded with this information against your wishes is very small imo. If it is important enough to you I think you can find a way to keep yourself in the dark, even if you have to alter your daily routine for a couple of days.

Most of my friends play and watch poker and I post here daily, but I'm still almost positive that when I watch it on ESPN I will NOT know who the winner was. Its really not that hard.

It's weird how there used to be months between the FT and the telecast and nobody bitched about knowing in advance.
