Also I know $1.5mill is quite a lot but I mean how much does the Bellagio make a day?

It's not exactly going to break them is it. Probably better off from a PR point of view just keeping it all as quiet as possible.

If the crook has other money, he sits down in a big game and buys in with cash or legitimate chips. When done playing he goes to the cage, but mixes in a few of the stolen chips. Does this a number of times and bingo.

all this posturing over what he needs to do is pretty unnecessary. Selling off the non-25k chips in the secondary market would be incredibly easy. There's plenty of poker players who have 200k+ in bellagio chips not cashed in, who would be willing to buy more at a vig.

changing the 25k chips just to save 1.5 million is not going to save them 1.5million.

Why I play online at Fool Tilt Poker
12-23-2010 , 01:08 PM
At the end of the day: the B isn't going to let anyone redeem a 25K chip without getting their ID, right? So at the very least, they'll have a list of the real name/info/SSN of everybody who redeems one, which will give them plenty of info to track down the robber.

Posters ITT act like if the robber is successfully able to get cash for the chips, he wins, which is a stupid assumption. Just because a bank robber makes it out of the bank with cash doesn't mean he's home-free. The B / authorities will have a ton of info to track him with if the stolen chips get redeemed in any way/shape/form.

if they were all pumpkins, like 50K worth, it would be a piece of cake, but 25K chips lol forget it. They are so anal (and with good reason) about even the 5K chips i don't see how this is going to happen.

Ok Ive never been to Vegas and seen the chips they use/know the tech they use in them. But seeing as they have single chips worth 25k+ In theory if you had the resources and know how could you produce a counterfeit. I.E. Would you be able to manufacture an exact copy of a 5k chip or a 25k chip? I mean even if it cost you 3k to make a 5k chip it would still be worth it. Even if you just spent them on hookers and blow.

In that case, think I'll pass the Bellagio and play at the casino down the street?

I think they are just doing everything they can to make to look like they really care:

- Deter future attempts

- Cover up their own security lapse where poker player get beaten in their bathroom, now robber run in and out untouched.

Back in the day when the mob ran Vegas , no one would be ballsy enough to try

something like this, except a rival mob perhaps. But this guy showed how easy it is to

rob a casino and the funny thing is - It's going to be harder to cash the chips than it

was to steal them.

actually, he is one for the spotlight. he is a very famous hedge fund manager and made an absolute killing being positioned correctly for the Lehman collapse.

Just found this! Here's the notice cancelling the Bellagio 25k chips in todays paper.

PUBLIC NOTICE Redemption of Bellagio Chips Effective December 22, 2010 Pursuant to Regulation 12.070(2)(c) of the Nevada State Gaming Control Board, effective December 22, 2010, the Bellagio Casino Hotel is discontinuing the standard $25,000 denomination gaming chip which is red with gray inlay and V shaped rose insert. These chips may be redeemed 24 hours a day at the Bellagio Main Casino Cage through April 22, 2011. PUB: Dec. 21, 24, 28, 31, 2010 LV Review-Journal

Hey B robber, congratulations, after April 22nd you have some really nice home game chips.
True this! Years ago I used to buy all the sets of commemorative chips that the local card rooms put out. They were usually in $5 denomination chips. Like Hollywood Park and their "jockey" series. So now years later I have several hundred dollars in commemorative chips, all sitting in a bag in my closet. I start taking them to the local casinos. Guess what? They no longer honor these chips. They have no value! Hello!!!

At some time years ago, they put out notices that these chips had to be exchanged by a certain date. I missed the notices and the deadline. SOL for me. I reminded them that I had paid cash money to the casino for these chips. Spoke with a supervisor at the cage. Did it do me any good? Nada! So if any of you collect commemoratives, look me up.

Bingo. All the chips in these denominations seems like it would be extremely easy to launder, he would just need some patience.
