It wasn't a pure joke. Complex rules stop the GTO bots in ring games. Decent playing bots that are merely playing approximately the way a good player thinks they should play is something else. But such bots couldn't beat tougher games.

I enjoy playing 0.25/0.50 6 max LHE against who I suspect are 3 bots and 2 other humans. Very interesting dynamic.

i would be quite surprised if bots didn't dominate the 5k+ 6max NLHE games two years from now.

also i would be VERY surprised if there is not at least 1 high stakes crusher that is actually botting...

i'm pretty sure i have played against multiple bots in my career, and i would eat my pants if some guys (say analog latka or gomoneygov) weren't bots...

also a very top high stakes reg got banned recently for botting

Yes. Well actually I didn't ask myself. I told myself backgammon got solved and that killed it and then I told myself I'll never get to play online hold em and stud tournaments while watching skinamax ever again, but Frenbar has a good point about the games still being workable if there's a mix of bots and bad players in there.

I realize that's a stretch and won't work so well for someone trying to make a living at this game, but for a poker addict with a job like me, well I'd play tbh lol

Just a few years ago a computer could rarely beat a halfway-decent player at Go -- last year the top ranked Go player in the world was beaten. AI is improving way faster than anyone realizes, and will soon be able to beat any human at any game.

I only play rec, so excuse my ignorance if this sounds stupid. How would a system such as this work? If, the top 25% of the regs beat the game for say 5bbs/100, and the top 10% 8bbs, and top 5%, say 10-12, why couldn't the algorithm detect any player outside ev >10% of these rates automatically be placed into a "special scrutiny" status. The algorithm could detect absolute ev based upon several categories. Pf, otf, ott, and of course 5th street. The computer can compare position, competition, stp ratios, etc.

Anybody who exceeds > x% over 100, 500, 750, etc. hands would be narrowed down on increasingly stringent criteria based upon narrowing scenarios of probability, luck, etc. At some point you would be manually watched post play and variables such as captcha or unusual prompts be instituted and response to them graded on a basis that SHOULD be random.

Once on the list you would stay until under performing for a certain period that comes close to even money after rake. I realize that there are probably several holes in this system but anyone that can't be positively id'ed as human would be constantly having to jump through hoops that are never the same causing unwanted sitting out or some other form of hassle until you would have to talk to a mod to be sat back in.

Just a thought. You could also be "scrutinized" if #x of players made complaints.

Obviously, it would inconvenience some people, but in theory, this would only happen if you were regularly exceeding ev for your level. Small price
to pay. Just having to type something like "howdy" to a prompt that only a mod could see would suffice.

Anyway, like I said, just a thought.

bots are easy, just flick its doomswitch and turn it off, it cant do much then. The bots very weakness is the very thing it feeds off, electricity! kill its power source, it no longer exists.

Most current bots could be stopped by sites applying small graphical changes to their software regularly.

See this is what I'm talking about. That's good news. Except that if this works, it must cost a ton of overhead or they would already be doing it

Check the PLO forum, lots of discussion here. Cliff notes are that bots are some of the biggest winners at low stakes (50plo - 200plo) across multiple sites. This is 6 max.
