People will tell you to pay off your card in full every month and save on the interest, but that's easeir said then done for most people. Some cards now start charging interest shortly after the transaction is made. Then don't have to wait a full month anymore to do that. They'd like to get rid of all cash so we are forced to use only credit or debit cards. And that sir is the American way! Rob the little guys to further enrich the big guys.

No, they can't, and don't, do that. In accordance with the Credit Card Accountability and Disclosure Act of 2009, banks are legally required to give credit card holders a minimum of 21 days between the end of their monthly billing cycle and their bill due date to pay off their credit card balance before interest charges kick in.

You or your friends may be getting "robbed" by credit card companies, but I think they're great. Not only have I never paid any interest on any of my cards, but I've accumulated points, miles, and other rewards that have enabled me to travel around the world on the credit card company's dime. In effect, they're paying me to use their cards.

You can only be bought if you are for sale.

This is true if you had fully paid off your previous bill. I believe if you carry over a balance past the due date, new charges will generally accrue interest starting immediately.

Couldn't you just use a debit card?

How much money can you get out of your ATM per day? These people are mostly talking about amounts of $5000 minimum, you might not even be able to get that from a bank branch without prior notice. Plus you'd have to go to the extra step of depositing from your playing bankroll. Maybe some poker rooms do take debit cards for tournament buyins, but I've never heard of that. I've certainly never seen a poker cashier for cash games taking ATM cards.

Wouldn't wiring it directly to the casino solve most of these problems?

https://www.everi.com/

Casino cages in Las Vegas will do so through debit card use in Everi Holdings machines, which are located right nest to the cage in every casino I know of there.

Depends on your bank and type of card and potentially on the ATM.

Back in the day, before moving to the US permanently, in Las Vegas I always used an ATM at Casino Royale that had a flat $1 fee per transaction up to $1000; lowest anywhere on the Strip that I knew of. No problem putting my credit card in 5 times to withdraw a total of $5000 for $5 total fees. No idea if the ATM had a limit. Worst case I could have used a different card and go up to that limit again.

I have two major bank debit cards, one has a max of $800 per day, the other $1000. I have asked for increases, these are the max limits I could get (the defaults were lower, around $500).

I prefer any other method than carrying the cash with me.

If you were a winning player with a cash bankroll who played in many different casinos, both near and far from where you live, I am pretty certain you would not enjoy having to go to the bank and deposit all your bankroll, then figure out how to get it back as cash when you need it to play. That would honestly take hours each time.

Can you bring poker chips on a plane? what if you had a 5k chip through tsa?

I'm a "preferred" client at Chase bank. Can withdraw up to 3K from each account I have there (three), so 9K total at any one time. I rarely have ever taken out more than $2,500 at any time. I always use the ATM's that are inside the bank for security reasons. Wells Fargo will only give me 1K per account there. I've never asked them to raise it.

Flown on domestic flights countless times with 10k+. Put the $ in sealed envelopes inside your personal item and carry it with you on the plane. TSA has no reason to ever open them. I’ve never been asked any questions about it for nearly 2 decades.

I've been told that airports are being a little more sticky in the last couple of months with 'asking' about cash. Nobody's had anything taken away, but they were just asked and thus, slowed down at security. You'd think it'd be pretty obvious why someone might be getting on a plane to Vegas with cash.

I think folks are getting more and more concerned over electronic transactions being tracked and possibly cross referenced with their other personal 'business'.

It seems easy to just say 'pick a bank' and I tend to agree that for low-level gamblers this makes the most sense. But I also know that DNegs was 'kicked out' of a brand name bank 5-6 years ago and I also had a Player in my local circle 'kicked out' of another after 25+ years in the recent months. He walked in one 'normal' day and they handed him checks to close all his accounts.

It makes sense that the more you bring the more likely you will be asked about it. I've got plenty of people who bring 20-30k with them and never get stopped.

The best method had to be to wire it .. not sure what a casino would do with a cashier's check. Definitely would slow you down in Vegas. GL

I may have missed a post or two .. But if a transaction on a credit card is considered to be a Cash Advance then there is an immediate fee and the interest starts that day. GL

That's my experience too. Cash advances on credit cards suck.

Carrying chips is fine, but they are subject to the same rules as cash. If you are flying international, you will need to declare the chips and any other cash or monetary instruments you have, IF they add up to more than $10,000. The Treasury Dept of the U.S., at least, says so. They consider casino chips to be the same as cash for declaration purposes.

I've been asked this at LAX for each of the last 3-4 trips from London when travelling for work (albeit my last trip was just before lockdown). An unshaven man travelling alone in comfortable clothing seems to arouse the suspicion of security.

As far as I can tell, yes. Unless you’re trying to keep your money out of the system for… reasons. I’m sure people can come up with some other minor inconveniences though. But yeah, imo if you don’t want to fly with cash then your other option is wiring it to the house.

Is there a good reason why we don’t have bigger bills?

I mean, having a $1000 or even a $500 bill would make life a lot easier.

And the $100 bill has been the biggest for how long now?

If anything they will phase out $100 bills in the future, not introduce new larger denominations. It's for the simple reason that most of the use of these large bills are for illegal/nefarious activities and governments want to make money laundering harder. The $500 and $1000 bills haven't been printed since 1945 and have been out of circulation since 1969 (thanks Nixon). BTW $1000 in 2022 money was worth $130 in 1969.

On another note, we have it a lot easier than most other countries. I've played in some home games in China that were all cash. The physical amount of paper needed for such a game is beyond comical. We were playing 500-1k RMB (about $75-$150) and the largest bank note there is the 100 RMB, which is the equivalent to about $15. So you needed 1000 bills to buy in for 100bbs.

You won't find many countries with bills with more than $100 USD. They still have 500 Euro notes but word is that they are getting phased out soon. For now the largest notes in regular use in the western world are the 1k Swiss Franc which is about 1:1 to USD at the moment.

99% correct. The other 1% is counterfeit risk. The larger the denominations, the greater the reward/risk ratio. Nobody counterfeits $5's for a reason.
