Brandon Cantu Stiffs Bay 101 Dealers

I just read the Card Player.com Interview of Brandon Cantu and it sure seems he gives a lot of love for someone that is a complete STIFF!!! I play at Bay 101 and apparently when he won the Shooting Star Tournament along with 6 bounties and the chip lead after Day 1, for a total of $1,040,000, he could not find it in his heart to leave a dollar for the dealers and staff. Pretty tight since he was making a living off tips before as a skycap. I sincerely hope that your career goes as well as mine has.

FK the dealers! If they want more money maybe they should take it up with the casino managers. I rather donate to the SPCA. They get payed to do there job. Its not the winners responsibility

Do they not take the tip out of the prize pool like at the WSOP?

No way! That can't be true. I hear stories about this and i can not beleive it. How can you not tip? If you look up greed in the dictionary it gives the perfect definition of what this may be.

It's your own fault if you don't make enough money.

Have you ever worked a job where you rely upon tips? I doubt it, otherwise you wouldn't be such a c*** sucker. If it is true it is awful, and hopefully karma will come around and bite him in the a$$.

Re: Brandon Cantu Stiffs Bay 101 Dealers

Just an FYI, John Stolzmann (who definitely isn't this guy) was someone who won the WPO in 2005 and tipped just $500, leading to this article by Mike Paulle, this response from The Camel and this email from Stolzmann to Paulle himself. I've got a feeling I know who created the account, but I'll keep that to myself for now.

So you tip dealers just because they rely on tips? You don't tip fast food workers because they don't rely on them?

maybe get dont work jobs that rely upon tips then?

have you ever tried beating tournament poker? i doubt it, otherwise you would understand how the casinos are the ones not paying the dealers...its hard enough to win with taxes and rake

Re: Brandon Cantu Stiffs Bay 101 Dealers

If dealers think tips are autmoatic, and whine when they don't receive one, that is definitely more fuel for players to stop tipping out of spite. For a job which does not give them access to inserting saliva or other unmentionables into food or drink, why exactly is tipping really necessary. If dealers want to make more than minimum wage, or receive tips, become a waiter, not a dealer.

Re: Brandon Cantu Stiffs Bay 101 Dealers

If the dealer tips are taken out of the prize pool then there's absolutely nothing wrong with not tipping. If I eat at a restaurant and they factor in a 15% tip for my bill I'm sure as hell not leaving a second tip for the waitress.

There is nothing taken out for the dealers and at Bay 101

$100 of the $400 goes to charity as mandated by the city of San Jose and the $300 goes to offset the costs of running the tournament in a cardroom that has a 40 table cap including tournaments and live games with no slot machines to keep people busy while all the table are occupied with the tournament. The WPT event at Bay 101 probably costs more to the bottom line than any other tournament on the WPT.

Banned account as this surely wasn't Stolzmann himself.

I have never met John Stoltzman so I agree this is obviously not him. I am shocked that it took so long to hit NVG as I know that many dealers and Players at Bay 101 post here. I came back the following day after the final table and heard from just about everyone that Brandon did not leave anything. I personally feel bad and I have always felt it is the players personal choice whether to tip or not and I know that people feel strongly both ways.

Facts
Brandon gave me a $500 personal tip which I donated to the dealers fund.

Dealers almost everywhere make the majority of their wage from tips.

Bay 101 has some of the best dealers in the world because they make a good wage.

The Bay Area is one of the most expensive places in the world to live.

I personally have no hard feelings towards Brandon and wish him continued success.

Re: Brandon Cantu Stiffs Bay 101 Dealers

It was discussed in Tournament Circuit in this thread. I guess Matt's point is that it wasn't discussed in a more popular forum on 2+2.
