Level? You do realize it wasn't attached to the Tax bill...and he already signed that anyway.

Subject: Thank You For Contacting My Office

Thank you for contacting me about Internet gambling. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this matter.Internet gambling websites operate primarily from foreign countries, despite that a majority of customers reside in the United States. As you may know, placing bets on-line violates state law and to-date, no state has authorized its citizens to place bets with foreign-operated websites. Additionally, federal law reinforces state gambling laws, and transforms violations of state gambling laws into federal crimes. Furthermore, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA; P.L. 109—347) prevents the use of credit cards and fund transfers for unlawful Internet gambling. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which has primary jurisdiction over this matter, you may be certain that I will keep your views in mind should relevant legislation be considered during the 111th Congress

Sincerely,
JOHN CORNYN

Well then, thanks for nothing. It's interesting to me that when Vegas floods you politicians offices with dollars, then you want to dance with Internet gaming. I will continue to play online poker, and as far as your statement that "no state has authorized its citizens to place bets with foreign-operated websites" they have also neither "authorized" me to go to the bathroom but I will continue to do that also.
I lol'ed at the bathroom comment +1 i hope your senator reads that

edit: I emailed my senator and he is for legalizing poker and believe it shouldnt be banned. Although it was a cut and paste statement like that but longer

The federal government is aware that the current law is unenforceable for the foreseeable future and they're not out to make examples out of online gamers (unless you live in a state like Washington).

So while the bill isn't passed, nobody is going to get shut down, traffic from the U.S. probably won't be blocked voluntarily (unless a threat exists) and as far as I can see, online sites are going to continue to allow people to play. If I'm reading something wrong, flame me now or forever hold your fire.

There is more than one way to skin this cat -- the other way in is for the government to go after someone for online gaming and for a federal case to be brought. Such a case will go through a lengthy appeals process during which, more than likely, online poker will be allowed to continue.

If the government won't pass the bill, it's up to operators to break the law in order to test its authority. The world isn't going to explode, something will happen.

The DOJ is hesitant to pursue litigation because the law is vague and open to interpretation. What they're doing instead is attacking the payment processors. The flow of money is the life line of online poker, and cutting the stream will kill the games without going to court. The PPA has stated that although we don't often hear about it, the DOJ is successfully shutting down processors. The sites are having difficulty finding distributors to process payments, and the people they're dealing with are only becoming more shady. This is why Stars, FTP and Cake have all thrown support behind the Reid bill, as they believe the games aren't sustainable for much longer.

lol @ bolded. If you decide to become a professional poker player, the first responsibility you have is having the discipline to manage your bankroll properly, AND ALREADY HAVE 6-12 MONTHS LIVING EXPENSES IN RESERVE.

While I whole-heartedly wish this on no one, anyone put in a predicament from any situation that results in no income for 6 months brought it on themselves, period.

It is nobody else's fault that such a person lacks the discipline and/or werewithal to buffer themselves from potential jailhouse-rock-ass-****age.

lol, yes, that is exactly the point! No professional poker player exercising proper bankroll management and holding previously mentioned cash reserves would ever be affected by "different circumstances."

Anyone "devastated" by not having online poker for (gasp) a little over a year needs to re-evaluate their situation immediately or live with the consequences.

I'm one of those people "living with the consequences."

By just viewing the title of the thread and the OP, you can mistake his message to be one which admonishes the PPA for not pushing hard enough to pass the bill as proposed with the 15 month "blackout" period. His message could then be seen as a foreshadowing of the coming fall of online poker occurring on and about April 15th, and implying somehow the PPA could predict government interference and should have driven that point home more effectively.

Guy's a ****** to bump this thread, as intervening events have played out that make the whine in Op a moot point. Black Friday did everything the "waiting period" was meant accomplish.

I just hope the thread title is the truth. Op has been pretty accurate so far. And yeah, put 6 months of expenses away no matter what you do.
