The fakes were so good, the casinos couldn't out them, they just knew they had more tokens than they had minted. They had to do destructive testing to tell the fakes from real ones. There was a slight difference in the metallurgy, the real ones were made of a protected alloy, the fakes an almost identical one.
Don't see how that is relevant when the casino has already said that they found counterfeits? They didn't say there's extra chips and we have no idea how.

How do you explain players reporting they started with extra chips ?

I played in this. +1 to the dealers being the absolute worst I have ever seen in my 10+yrs playing poker. I have played at least 1 borgata event since they have opened every year as well. It would be insanely easy at the end of day 1 to add chips to your bag since no one pays any attention anyway. Not to mention as tables break you could add as many chips as you wanted while moving to your next table. I think the majority of the cheats added chips in that way.

Everyone counts their stack prior to starting.. the fact that they acknowledged this and it was fine blows my mind

I think you guys are giving the cameras way too much credit here. A convention center area like that will probably have a handful of pan-tilt-zoom cameras. While it's true they can probably read the serial number off a bill, they actually need to be zoomed in to see that. If nobody is operating them, then they are set to either the last place that they were on or just a general shot of the room. It's not like you can just say "enhance" and tap on a player and his bio comes up and a scan by weight of his pocket like in the movies. It's more like you just had a guy standing there watching the tournament from up high from one or two angles. and maybe they can see someone do something fishy.

First post but I +1 this.

I play in these too and there is also a cash prize for having the most chips at the end of day 1. Usually 3-5k iirc.

Louis Colavecchio after being caught and escaping a long sentence by showing Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun his secrets went back to old ways and was caught against doing the same thing at other casinos. He is reputed to be a connected guy. In the business, "He would be a friend of mine". He is not a "Made Guy" In 2013 at the age of 71 he was busted for drugs. He is without question the best counterfeit token guy in the business. Fortunately for casinos they no longer use gaming tokens in slot machines. It's all cash in tickets out. I can tell you that in no way could fake chips be used on the table games. They might pass muster in a poker tournament but the "Pit" are able to quickly identify fake chips. Paulson who makes most of the chips has several secret safeguards in the chips that are only known to casinos.

You hit the nail on the head in regard to cameras. But hey what do I know, I only worked in a Surveillance dept at one point in my life.

Men is involved in this scam. If he and his crew are not put in jail I think the poker community needs to call these **** out at every poker room they show up in for life

A few reports of people with some extra chips doesn't account for over 1 mill in extra chips and also doesn't account for borgata saying they found counterfeit chips in the player pool. I don't understand what point you are trying to make. Are you trying to say that borgata lied about the chips being counterfeit?

And on a side note the people who started with extra chips and didn't say anything acted in a scummy way.

There has been only one report of someone claiming a friend of theirs started with extra chips. A far cry from 1 million extra chips.

Grunching // if every entrant (even those who busted) get refunded, but they do an ICM chop or whatever for the 27 left, what's the total amount that Borgata would lose on the tourney?

1)Men has a long history of cheating, chip dumping, colluding, chip hoarding etc...

2)Men hasn't been to Borgata in years and all of a sudden makes an appearance

3)Men outlasts 4780+ players

4)Counterfeit chips were introduced and result in a massive controversy and cheating scandal

5)Tournament ultimately cancelled

Men's innocent I tell ya, it's all just a weird coincidence.

Well they'd be paying $500 * 4800 entries cause they would be paying the entire prize pool out so somewhere around 2.4 mill?

Who cares what they lose it's a drop in the hat for them 3 days of slot players money? A weeks worth they will still profit.

Mr. idlike:

Thank you for your keen powers of observation and discernment. I'm especially pleased that you recognize my literary talents. I must point out that I am reincarnated. In a previous life I was known as William Shakespeare of Stratford-on-Avon. You might have read some of my work.

Speaking of imbroglio, I wonder if the imbroglio at the Borgata will influence poker players to embargo Atlantic City?

This is an event center so high up in the air cameras aren't made for being on tables.... It's not like on the floor. And casinos usually don't monitor poker rooms unless they are notified. It's players money not casinos money. They got casino money to watch in black jack and craps table. Not to mention how many tables and hours you have to review 150 tables a day? 1500 players to watch over a 10hour period impossible to know all facts and no one is going to go over that much footage.
