Mods the title sounds like they cancelled the whole tourney. It should say (suspends event 1)

Obviously some of the cheaters made it to the final 30. Word from someone at the borgata right now is that the state and borgata know exactly who some of the suspects are, just not saying the names publicly.

I am projecting a bit but I believe the following may be true in varying degrees:

1) This is now in the hands of the NJGC...they are likely calling the shots and probably have been largely since this was discovered. They will ultimately make the call as to what to do with the remaining 27 WRT to payouts.

2) There are a lot of lawyers and regulators involved at this point. For the NJGC, for Borgata, hell Tab may have his own attorney at this point.

3) The idea that a lawyer is going to allow someone to make a statement to appease the tards in this forum is laughable

4) This process may or may not take a good bit of time and final resolution could be a ways off




And LOL at cancelling the whole series...why exactly is that necessary?

Cancelled means it won't be finished.
Suspended, means it will/may continue.

I don't think it's really been determined how they will resolve, regardless of what word they used.

So in other words...you can introduce counterfeit chips, just do it properly...only in NJ....gotta love Borgata and AC.

24 hours later they "cancelled" it, after investigating.. why is this even debatable?...

Soon, more statements will be made as to how they will go about resolving the money issue. Event 1 is over.

According to the source quoted so far, funds are frozen by the state until investigation is completed. That's a suspension, so until new info is released, cancellation is the wrong term.

What a ****ing mess. Honestly, as much as I'm addicted to Borg tournaments, this is a wake up call years in the making. The big opening events have been a cluster**** over the past cpl yrs.

Depends on who you ask. According to some here they're GGGGGRRREEAT! TD seems to have a lot of friends on 2+2. Nevermind some dirtbag(s) bringing in the counterfeit chips....I'd be ashamed to call myself the TD of this event after seeing how they handled the tournament from day 1a to 1c.

This won't matter. Everyone counts and writes their own and people screw up counting all the time. The list is just someone copying down what's on the bags.

No official statement from Borgata about the situation? I understand the cardplayer quote, but I think the players are due more from the casino. I'll be waiting for my refund in the mail in Cincinnati. I didnt expect a refund until I heard players were getting these in their starting stacks. Totally absurd imo.

All we know is $1,433,135 of prize money is frozen. 27 poor souls. What is "fair" for them?

The rest, over $900K has already been paid out, gone, probably used for other buy ins, etc.

Will the NJDGE want the 413 players to give back their winnings? They do have their names.

And then there are the 4,362 bust outs that are surely yelling "foul" or way worse.

Will the NJDGE have the sense of urgency to get a solution quickly? It is on them for the decision. All The Borgata can do is provide whatever the DGE needs.

Unreliable players write how many chips on bag. A cheater who put chips in play if he loses the counterfeit chips in a pot he can just subtract amount of counterfeit chips from his stack total so the numbers still come up right.

I wonder if "The Master" was staying at Harrahs.

The correct way to do it is correlate each start day chip counts separately with number who advanced.

Okay, I could not read the entire thread, but all I can say is "what took so long?" You have a 17-year-old computer genius in St. Petersberg selling malware to cyber criminals who then use it to bust Target and other retailers. I have been going down to Borgata for a decade and playing in tournaments, and I don't remember the chips every changing. Why anyone is surprised is beyond me. Also, with 3D printers, duplicating chips will get easier and easier. They have to use the old switcheroo or something (with chip colors). With today's risk management technology, there has to be a way to eliminate counterfeit chips. How about no bags/backpacks and searching all players before they enter the table area? Just one idea. Probably should be done anyway these days.

But not surprised at all someone tried to benefit by using the "bring your own chip" strategy. Again, I am just sort of stunned it took so long.

If you read this thread and see how quickly people jump to "There will be lawsuits!!", I'm sure you'll understand why no official statements have been made yet.
