Anyone know what the status is? Would have thought it would have been released sooner after Doyle's death. Would have seem the perfect time.

Hoping the biopic is well done. Doyle is probably one the few shining lights in poker. Surprised Hollywood never decided to do a decent film on him.

With the way they do casting these days, that is quite likely, lol.

Poker players and poker itself are pretty boring and what little is interesting about them doesn't translate well to cinema.

Rounders wasn't good because of Mike. He was a cipher. It was interesting because it took us on a tour of this seedy, dangerous and fascinating world we knew nothing about. From Chan to Knish to underground games run by the mob. Cheating, gambling in prison, etc.

If the movie is about Doyle the man, and his childhood and love life it will suck. Could be pretty good if it is about Doyle moving through the worlds of road gambling, mob Vegas, etc.

I've yet to reach the point in Doyle's autobiography where he beats cancer for the first time and there is already more than enough for a movie.

Agree with some of your points. Molly's Game wasn't really about Molly but rather the underworld of celebrity gambling. Nonetheless, Doyle represents the "Texas" in NL Texas Holdem. Plus his earlier promise as a world class runner and basketball player. He lived an incredible life. It should be documented. Hoping BoostedJ can do proper justice to that legacy. I have a soft spot for the earlier 60s/70s/80s Vegas scene. Would be nice to see an autobiograhical look at that time in his life.

I think one of the things that could have helped Doyle in the beginning of his poker career when he was a road gambler was that he did not look like someone who was super aggressive. Bald and heavyset with black framed glasses he looked like a somewhat nerdy accountant and that image was totally opposite of his normal brutal aggression at the table. Of course any new player would eventually learn of his style of play but by then they might have lost hundreds or thousands of dollars to him.

I think the same thing probably happened when the Italian Dario Minieri first played at the WSOP. Nobody knew him and his appearance (short, young, thin, scarf wearing) was not very intimidating and totally concealed his extreme aggression. Thus maybe thousands of dollars were lost to him before the truth became known.

On the other hand a guy like Sammy Farha looks and talks like he could be a bluffing machine and thus any new player could adjust their play to fit Sammy's aggressive image.

He looks very different with the long hair.

I wouldn't even recognise him.

If you never seen or heard about the above pictured poker players which one would you be more likely to call a big bet on the river.

You do know he began playing poker when he was a college athlete? You realize he was drafted by the Laker’s? He had been playing poker for 25+ years before your referenced picture was taken.

Yeah, but I would still be less likely to call a big bet on the river from a guy (a clean cut, glasses wearing athlete, from a Baptist University) who looked like this-

-then I would a guy who looked like this:

He was not bald. He was not overweight. Those glasses were the style of that day. And it is common knowledge that young athletes are aggressive. That is true now but just as true then. So maybe people did underestimate his aggression but not for any reason you proposed.
