It is worth noting that it avoids the specific question of whether spreading online poker is illegal under federal law because it uses maryland state law to prove that it was illegal, but I've never heard of a site banning maryland residents, so that probably applies to every site...
Primarily concerned with bank fraud is industry propaganda. It's one of many charges in the indictment

Edit: It's also impossible to run a site that accepts players in the US without committing bank fraud.

It's how I interpreted what I read when I read the indictment.

As I'm sure you know, it's quite standard to include other weaker charges in an indictment. It's worth noting that the charges for bank fraud and money laundering carried by far the largest penalties.

The money laundering is based on gambling, not bank fraud.

Edit: And the bank fraud takes more paragraphs to lay out than the gambling and money laundering, but that doesn't make it more significant.

Money grab, that's all it's ever been.

My turn. Enjoy the burden you've created as I can no longer contribute, weather that to be the money you so easily steal from my site accounts, or taxes, or anything I put into the economy.

some perspective from a year ago:

Maryland law enforcers aim to take the pot by secretly sitting at the online gambling table

Quote:
"There are very big numbers in internet gambling," say [Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod] Rosenstein, acknowledging the sizeable cut the government could get through seizing and forfeiting assets, which are funneled into law-enforcement budgets to support the efforts of the agencies that seized them ... Seizing and forfeiting criminally derived assets, including those from online gambling, has been made a priority by Rosenstein's office. Last year, he hired the nation's top asset-forfeiture prosecutor--Stefan Cassella, who literally wrote the book on the subject, a 950-page tome entitled Asset Forfeiture Law in the United States--to lead the effort.
At least he's honest.

None of the Sportsbooks that offer poker have been affected what so ever to my knowledge.
What is the reason for this?
Do the Sportsbooks do things legit and by the book, even with US players?
There is talk of Bodog, but nothing has happened to them either.
LOL Really?
Yes the sportsbooks do things legit
that is where full tilt and pokerstars went wrong. They didn't have the resources and wherewithall and legal advice to do things by the book as the sportsbooks do. Really? Common sense would answer your question.

my post from mttc
Doing gaming related money laundering in the MD is a recipe for disaster.

from a MDTed post in 2006 on pokersource

Quote:
Unfortunately (or fortunately if you're against money laundering and illegal wire transfers) Maryland has some of the toughest laws for companies wishing to do business as money transfer companies. They had massive problems with fly by night people taking money and not sending it through.
The only time I've ever sent my own money to a site it was via bank check and I get those free from my bank.

Even pre-uigea Neteller wouldn't operate in Maryland.

I had to use firepay which was obv illegall in MD, but they still operated in MD...
Former Firepay CEO? is....

Resources, wherewithall and legal advice are all things that a Billion Dollar company should have absoultely no problem acquiring at any point in time. Forgive me if my common sense is lacking in this area, but nothing is as it seems anymore. FWIW, I have played (poker, and sports betting) on sportsbook for quite sometime, I have had problems with thier checks before, i.e got a check tried to deposit and the check was no good, told SB and they sent me another check, it seems like they share some similarities with the sites being shutdown. I'm just trying to figure out if it is just a matter of time before the sportsbooks are going to be dunzo too.
