People would no longer have to wait until they’re 21 to gamble under a bill proposed by Republican Assemblyman Jim Wheeler. AB86 proposes lowering the gambling age to 18. That would mean younger people could play slots, make sport bets and play at the tables, as well as work in a casino and hang out in places where there’s gambling. The bill comes as annual gambling revenue statewide hit $11.3 billion in 2016, but still fell short of the $12.8 billion record reached in 2007, before the recession.

Seems kinda weird with the drinking age, kids cant't go to the diamond lounge where there isn't even gaming.

Seriously? Where are they highlighting the issues brought about by focus on the family at now??? Seems like just another decision to make more money for these casinos. Imagine the amount of problem gamblers that come out of this group compared to a more mature age group.

University school loans going to become the "new" bankroll for many in this group.

All that bull about focusing on protecting underage and potentially problem gamblers when they pushed all the online gambling legislation through years ago and then they go ahead and allow casinos to pop up all over America anyway.

Now they are going to lower the legal gambling age in Nevada. Next other states will follow. What a total hypocrisy, lol.

Seems kinda pointless, most 21 year olds are already too ******ed to understand odds or gamble responsibly.

Given younger people are better at learning things, wouldn't it be better if they learn to gamble responsibly while they are still at a young age and aren't doing on their own household budget?

To the legislator pushing it, that doesn't matter...he just endeared himself to a new batch of potential voters and panders by saying "hey, I tried..."

Nevadan 2+2 members need to encourage Sheldon Adelson to get behind this. If he does, it weakens one of his arguments against online gaming.

18 has been the legal gambling age in Montana for a lot of years.

You are of legal age and an adult in all states with regards to contracts, laws and personal responsibility at 18. The only restrictions in most states for 18-20 yr olds are drinking and gambling. I am in favor of allowing gambling. Could lead to a mini poker boom and definitely good for WSOP and other NV tournaments.

If you are old enough to be sent to war, you should be old enough to gamble.

18-20 year olds in poker do not have disposable income to donk around. They would be winning players.

Oh no they don't, I had to wait 3 years while living in this state having to drive to California Indian casinos and these kids should have to as well.

18-20 year olds don't have enough money to make a huge difference, but more importantly, they aren't responsible enough to not put what they need on the table perhaps causing a burden to the state and their parents.

Now I agree that directly conflicts with personal responsibility, liberty, and freedoms and I can understand that argument but I think it will overall hurt Nevada. I think very little outside money from this age group from out of state would come in aside from 18-20yr olds stationed at the air force base. It would probably hit them pretty hard.

Throw in the additional problems with cocktail service and I can't see how this is worth it or will pass. The public goal of casinos is to provide gaming to people who can afford it as an entertainment expense and that's going to be a hard case to make here. Plus I don't think cutting people down before they establish themselves is a good long term strategy.

And I doubt much of it would end up in the poker rooms anyways. The sportsbook would get almost all of it if I had to guess.

FYP. It is an insanely hypocritical to think any other way than this imo.

exactly.

if politicians want to stop sending off other people's naive 18 year old kids to die in nonsense wars then i could understand needing to be 21 to do certain things.

One thing I think is funny is the agent of consent for sexual relations is even lower in some states. I would say sex can have more long term consequences than gambling.

As someone who came of age during the period where the age was raised from 18 to 19 and then to 21 (first increase grandfathered in those who were legal while the second just shut out everyone who was not already 21), I saw far more binge drinking take place when it went to 21.

Raising the age to 21 really didn't make things 'better' in terms of protecting 'children' from the evil bottles...

Pretty awful post start to finish - why don't you just say "adults have the right to gamble" and take the other side of the argument - keeps you from sounding like an idiot.

Why not just lower the age to play poker to 18?
