monopolies are only bad when they are imposed by the government.

for example, if the government only gave one company a licence to run an online poker room... that would be bad because it could rip off the consumer.

but in the case of poker stars... where they gained their monopoly status by offering a better product/service than their competitors and built a good reputation... it's actually good that they have a near monopoly because that means that the bad companies have been weeded out and the consumer will not be ripped off by these other sites that are not run with the same integrity as pokerstars.

Ummm 2 words: News Corp. - of course private monopolies can be disastrous.

With Pokerstars, you would expect to receive the money within 2 weeks. I don't like Stars, but this is not a poker site that will stall on player payment.

What needs to happen...

An upvoting system, or "like" system where you can credit or discredit posts and then an option to sort by that thus allowing people to see all the relevant **** in just one page. 2p2 can stay exactly the same with the default option being chronological sort, but I would love the option to filter out the 1200 posts of bs and read the 12 from kevmath/noahsd...etc that actually matter.

Just realized this won't be read by anyone relevant because it's getting dropped into a sea of horse****.
damn good idea, too bad there isnt a 2p2reddit

Twitter accounts get hacked regularly.

I hope all this rumour hasn't developed from one tweet and there are actually other sorts of evidence/information out there backing this rumour.

If this falls through, it's gonna now be referred to as Blue Balls Tuesday.

I highly doubt Stars would pay for the privilege of paying back all the FT customers.
Reaching a settlement with the DOJ is probably pretty valuable to them, if this happens, that's probably the main reason

Yes I know I've read much about how happy local oil companies were when Rockefeller bought up all of the railroads and other infrastructure surrounding the oil industry so that nobody but him would have any realistic way to participate in the business.

(not really)

I'm not commenting on the Pokerstars thing, because I can't imagine monopoly concerns overriding FTP player payback concerns at this point.

Because clearly the GBT offer would be better than no deal at all and for me, this would have been just perfectly fine.
It's exactly what I think and what makes more sense. But until the buy of ft by ps is not confirmed I'm a little scared; GBT was a reality and now is over and the ps stuff is just, ATM, a rumour.

My money is stuck in a limbo check that I never received. I won't expect to see anything in 2 weeks.

Wicked Chops Poker ‏ @wickedchops
For those still doubting deal--DoJ isn't killing Tapie without an alternative in place. DoJ ready for this to be over.

Expecting money back in short order doesn't seem very wise to me - there are pretty big logistical hurdles entailed by taking on a unique company's assets that did not apply to Stars' distribution of balances back shortly after Black Friday. I'm pretty sure it will take a good while to sort everything out, though hopefully I am wrong.

Daniel Negreanus reaction to pokerstars buying full tilt,

“I have no information on it other than what I’m reading but people I’m talking to seem to believe it’s true,” said Negreanu.

“The idea of PokerStars buying Full Tilt for $750 million seems impossible to me, so based on what I know it would really surprise me.

“But it would definitely be good for poker players because PokerStars is a good company and players wouldn’t have to deal with those scumbags anymore,” he said.
