Doesn't make sense.
wat?

From the GBT statement, they seem to indicate that they will be back to continue the negotiation if PS deal fails.

@igamingpost: POKERSTARS statement coming up soon about the whole FTP purchase..in the mean time..PokerStars purchases FTP STATEMENT http://www.gaming-awards.com/NEWS/archives/8374”

I'm not sure if this actually means Pstars is about to release a statement because:

a) this is the website that got our hopes up about an announcement before
b) They labeled GBT statement re: their failure as "Pokerstars purchases FTP Statement"

Ok, there is that, but it seems too little gain for investing that much money.
Not alot of money if regulation for the US market is close. I speculate that's one the biggest reasons for the acquisition. Legal IP in the US within the next year maybe? Also you underestimate multitablers. Pretty big slice of the pie.

Tapie was behind the International Stadium Poker Tour right? The ISPT was supposed to make some huge announcement with all the details on what, May 3rd?

I had assumed that they were going to announce a partnership between FTP2 and ISPT, ie that tapie's whole premise was to get an online player base to support his live poker tour.

Assuming this was correct - what happens to ISPT now? Tapie's comment today shows that he had some other plan to put in place now that ftp has fallen though. I wonder if that means he's looking at maybe Party Poker as an online partner? Or if he intends to launch a new fresh online site to help funnel players to/from the live ISPT?

P.S. +1 useless post in this thread
there is no reason to fear private sector monopolies.

monopolies are only bad when they are imposed by the government.

for example, if the government only gave one company a licence to run an online poker room... that would be bad because it could rip off the consumer.

but in the case of poker stars... where they gained their monopoly status by offering a better product/service than their competitors and built a good reputation... it's actually good that they have a near monopoly because that means that the bad companies have been weeded out and the consumer will not be ripped off by these other sites that are not run with the same integrity as pokerstars.

Stars hiring a developer in Dublin

My first thoughts on the matter:
1. I am way more comfortable with Stars buying FTP than GBT (a group of convicted criminals).

2. Yeah 750m sounds like way too much right now, but it is a sound investment and will pay for itself in a few years of operation. They just wiped out the relaunch of the closest competitor, and gained +rep like a mofo in the poker community. Nice move for Stars.

Meh, I just contacted PS support and asked them if the rumours are true or not
04-24-2012 , 01:58 PM
on a serious note now, why would the DOJ deny the takeover by GBT on their terms, i.e. paying back 95% immediately and the other high balance players on a fixed date with a 100% certainty. I mean the DOJ cant possibly deny this offer if they would not have had better negotiations with someone else? Because clearly the GBT offer would be better than no deal at all and for me, this would have been just perfectly fine.

From LastLife in PL:

http://pokerfuse.com/news/poker-room..****es-with-doj/

Quote:
Alex Dreyfus, CEO of Chili Gaming, stated on twitter that PokerStars has paid $750m to acquire Full Tilt and settle its outstanding legal issues with the DOJ. A reported $330m of that price will go to repay Full Tilt account holders with the remainder believed to be in settlement of outstanding charges against PokerStars.
So it's looking like a $420M settlement. That's a bargin, imo, assuming everything is settled. Party paid $300M(and $100m+ from Dik****?), and they never offered post UIGEA.
