Even coffee might not be worth it if it crashes you for the second half of the day. I go back and forth.

No nootropic or other solution comes close from my experience, as nitty as it sounds. Other benefits quickly manifest.

Treat yourself to some herbal remedies after your day's tasks are complete.
Find a cute girl that doesn't take all of your profits.

A benzo like ativan/Lorazepam is not a good choice unless you have some sort of mental disorder. You will build tolerance whilst not growing your natural defense mechanisms. And in the long run you are doomed.

As a one off for the main event final table it would be a different question.


Alot of drugs effects can already be replicated with your own mind.

I would get some good opiates and smoke weed. Very small amounts of benzos, break them in four. these are all legal, in fact I take them every day.

I would play some days without any music or tv shows, just to see how it goes without distractions.

Agree that benzos are pretty good, especially if you have any anxiety, worry, results-orientated thinking to overcome. Pretty slippery slope though, so proceed with caution.

I've tried grinding anywhere between taking large amounts of speed and a standard Ritalin or whatever dose and found that while I had heightened concentration, it was really fleeting. In the end, I was more prone to distraction.

Ultimately nothing and a good sleep routine is likely best. I just use caffeine at the moment, and while I have to force myself to re-focus many times a session, at least I know my head is clear.

I take remeron (mirtazapine) for depression/anxiety and it definitely helps for grinding. Mirtazapine has an analgesic/anxiolytic effect and it makes me much more even-keeled with regards to dealing with beats/tilt. I've taken benzos before but found them less helpful and obviously they are addicting and potentially very problematic over the long-term.

The drawback of mirtazapine is it's incredibly sedating and I'm affected by the drug for about 12-14 hours (usually sleeping ~10 of them). Also at times it makes me apathetic to a degree that is disconcerting. That can be good for poker in a sense, but not for life.

Honestly this is the one thing that always pushes my results back to the good side of things when I'm in a downswing or slacking off playing live poker or whatever.

Always used to be on the mountain dew + gummy worms plan and its fine until things get tough, but during the hard times it just doesn't do it.

Surprising lack of popularity of the ol' alcohol. A lot of it will certainly cloud the judgement, but a little can help with the relaxation and is safer than tranquilizers.

Coffee during the day and Matcha green tea, fish oils and heavily hopped IPA at night.

Smack, laced with fentanyl usually does the trick to grinding a long day at the tables.

Works for live poker as well, over sized hoody required.
