My guess is that the other person was a very unknown acquaintance. He isn’t considered an accessory and he supposedly wasn’t a victim of kidnapping.

Super strange part of the story.

Crime is dumb. Crime with others is stupid dumb.

Bellagio Poker Room Robbery Suspect Still At Large
No Arrests Have Been Made Yet, Police Spokesperson Says

I would have lost big time on the bet he would have been arrested by now. Another acquaintance involved. Video everywhere. Hundreds of people. Inside a fortress for a few minutes.

I would have won a lot of money betting that this guy wouldn’t get caught. Just like the Biker Bandit or whatever never would have gotten caught if he just had kept the cash and small chips and ditched the 25ks. The 25k chips were the only reason he got caught.

If he took this advice his $40k is now worth approximately $7367.

That's not true. They had him in his sights the next day when he was gambling high stakes table games and a poker dealer saw him and reported that the guy had been complaining about going broke for the prior few weeks. They also tracked his play and saw that he was buying in table games with chips, losing a percentage of them at the table and then going to the cage and cashing out more than he originally bought in with.

They sat on it gathering evidence until they could set up a sting to buy the stolen chips.

They had some circumstantial stuff on him. But without the way that he handled the cranberries I truly believe they wouldn’t have had enough to convict him. Which o would imagine was why they didn’t arrest him until they had something more concrete on him.

The dude only got 3 years for the Bellagio robbery. He got 6 more for the Suncoast robbery, but if he would have just done the Bellagio he would have gotten 3 years (less once he gets time off for good behavior). Had he been smart with the money instead of lighting it on fire at the tables and high stakes poker it could be seen as a smart financial move for him. The article said he had $400k in cash and easily changeable chips, if he just got that out of it that’s more than $100k for each year that he’s in prison. The dude obviously wasn’t very smart so profiting $100k a year for the years he was in prison may not have sounded to bad to him

If he was smart he gets rid of the $400k (hides it somewhere) and then has it when he gets out without anyone knowing. He would then file bankruptcy

You can't discharge criminal restitution payments in bankruptcy.

There’s plenty of ways to hide $400000. Giving it to someone else. Putting it in a bank in a country that doesn’t have extradition laws. There’s ways he could have done it if was smart and hadn’t blown as much as he did at Bellagio

With that attitude you’re never going to get away with robbing one. It’s kinda fun to consider how you would do it, not that I or anyone else in this thread would ever do it.

This post is laughably wrong-headed in every premise, every phrase, every assumption and the described hypothetical post-hoc plan.

But, glad you found its creation "kind of fun". Better stick to your day job rather than embark upon a life of crime.

I think a lot of people would take 3 years for $400k. Maybe I’m wrong. But I don’t think so

Being on the flip side I'll say it's extremely difficult to collect criminal restitution payments.

This. And it’s very easy to hide money from the people trying to collect it

Like a good Pinot, I'm going to let this one swirl around a bit. Such goodness....

Oh wait, you said "a lot". Well 15 is a lot in some cases. Guess you might win the internet today.

I did three weeks in jail one time, worst experience of my life, including being in burn center and getting skin grafts.

But if you were making $133000/year to do it it would be far less painful

At least the burn center was very liberal with pain meds.
