Your not ridiculous. 99% of the time having safe is absolutely correct. Anyone who says otherwise is a tit.

Also under 'normal circumstances' this hotel should lose all of its business (if it became obvious that they were in on it). So yes they gain 3k in the short term, but in the long term they SHOULD lose tens of thousands.

I was wondering if we can declare valuable items and money at reception desk when we arriving to hotel, so they could take it into deposit and assume further responsibility of objects?

So 200 players deposit an average of 5000 each. Th ehotel would be setting itself up for a holdup.

If I were a thief the first place I would look for money is the safe. I travel all over the world constantly and I never use the room safe for storing cash. My cash and passport are always on me, in a front pocket with a zipper.

What's ******ed is the people advising using the room safe and saying the hotel will help you get it back if it is stolen. We've already seen the hotel security and local police colluding with the cleaning staff.

(Might also simply be +EV if a $100 camera aids in the recovery of a 4- or 5-figure theft.)

Sure and it is absolutely not ******ed to asume a comon thief can open up modern safes like it's nothing. Must be the reason why safes are never used for valuable items ever anywhere...
Man, to think that some of the people posting here (incl. or mainly OP) have actual bankrolls just shows you dont have to be intelligent to become a pro...

Funny how easy it is to convince people over the internet that a crime was committed by not providing the slightest evidence or plausibel back story and basically the word of an anonymous gambler. Well done. To any decent person reading this, That's why every poker pro goes broke sooner or later.

I see you are living in the world of unicorns and bunny rabbits.

The hotel employees are the thieves. The hotel employees are the ones who know the special code to open any safe in the hotel. Hotel security is in on it. This is a common scam in many countries. When you report the theft, they will go through the motions of 'investigating'...then they will inform you that the camera on that floor wasn't working that day so they don't have video footage of the people coming and going. "Sorry, we can't help you."

The hotel employees are well aware of who the high rollers are.

As I said, the first place a thief will look for your cash is the hotel safe, but go ahead and put thousands of dollars in there if you want.

My cash always stays with me. On the odd occasion that I need to hide it, the last place it goes is the safe.

One of the biggest reasons I hardly use housekeeping every day is I don't wanna worry about my things including cash of course. If I stay longer than 4 or 5 days then I let them clean the room for one day only and the no disturb sign goes back outside the door for the duration of my stay. I just call for fresh towels when I need them.

Lol right it's me who lives in a dream world and believes fairy tales. You people obv have lost touch completely with reality . No wonder hotel management laughs at so much degency. This is a multi billion hotel chain in the 5 star superior class we are talking about. You think anyone there gives a fk about who you are? Put away the remote and maybe go out or read a book once in a while. You are morons for real.

On that note I am going to close the thread as it seems to have served the purpose of informing the poker world of this incident and the continued risk of leaving money in hotel rooms (in particular in this hotel), and generating ideas on how to mitigate this type of risk in the future.

We now seem to be squarely stuck on blaming the victim, not believing the story, and/or insulting him and all other poker players.

If anybody has valuable information that merits re-opening the thread, please PM me or post in the NVG Moderation thread.
