The hotel employees are the thieves. The hotel employees are the ones who know the special code to open any safe in the hotel. Hotel security is in on it. This is a common scam in many countries. When you report the theft, they will go through the motions of 'investigating'...then they will inform you that the camera on that floor wasn't working that day so they don't have video footage of the people coming and going. "Sorry, we can't help you."
The hotel employees are well aware of who the high rollers are.
As I said, the first place a thief will look for your cash is the hotel safe, but go ahead and put thousands of dollars in there if you want.
My cash always stays with me. On the odd occasion that I need to hide it, the last place it goes is the safe.
