Look's like Eli's selling his 6 bathroom mansion. It appears poker has been very very good for him.

That's a nice house, and news for NVG, but is it only in the paper because of a real estate agent?

Just thinking about it from the business end. I'd imagine there are many houses like that in LV available to buy, so maybe the author of the article writes a semi interest piece in exchange for exposure for the houses she reps on the market?

Or agents/sellers pay the paper to write these articles?

I never quite figured out his story. Supposedly he was an Israeli army officer who ended up in Alaska and from there came to Vegas. He ought to write a book and straighten it all out.

In my area, the "stories" in the real estate section are done by the real estate companies.

Yes unless a story is in the main news section it's disguised advertising. The government should make the newspapers disclose this fact. In my city every Friday there is a whole advertising section based on real estate "news".

He is obviously a super secret top CIA/NSA operative and only uses poker as his cover story. Good for him.

There was a article on a 25 million dollar house for sale the other day, so ya they do this pretty often.

That photo developing business was unbelievable. It was a slightly devious bait and switch. Many of the customers who came in didn't realize what they were paying to get those pictures quickly developed. This was decades before digital cameras. When the customers balked about what they had to pay and wanted the negatives back they were told forget it.
It came down to the pictures were held for ransom. If you traveled from countries half way around the globe and knew you weren't coming back to Las Vegas anytime soon you want the photos. In some cases they were of relatives living in this country that met up with people traveling. Imagine going back to Japan empty handed when someone's grandmother wanted see a picture of them. You paid the ransom when in many cases was $45-$100. Give credit to Eli. He created a phenomenal business. Was it slightly unethical, sure but how about the time share business that was flourishing at the time.

Huh? Like the customers handed over their prints without knowing what the price was? Sounds like stupid customers. Unless he is doing something like advertizing one price and charging another, there is nothing unethical here.

The business had a lot of complaints. I know one of the two Las Vegas newspapers did an article on it. When your dealing with a lot of foreign customers or people from Midwest who think are paying drugstore prices to develop a roll of film it can come as shock. There was a lot of up-selling going on. Larger prints and so on. Many people didn't know what the cost was until they came back to pick up the pictures. It costs hardly anything to develop and print the photos on the machine they used. The finished pictures were worth way more to the customer. If the customer refused to pay the store was out a couple of dollars. If the customer paid they made 20 to 40 times that. I remember when they opened. I was playing poker at the Stardust. They were directly across the street 50 feet away from the Peppermill.

He seemed to had rise through the ranks rather quickly for an elite army division and earning 100k per year in 1982 gutting fish seems very elaborate.

This guy's accomplishments are definitely admirable; Israeli Commando, makes good in U.S. business dealings, High Stakes Poker player, and a good family man. I wish I could've accomplished just one of those things; no jealousy though, I've done OK for myself.....
