Pretty long article in the "Your Money" section of the WSJ on staking in poker titled "The Hidden Game Behind Professional Poker". They spoke with Negeanu, Shane Sigsbee and Faraz Jaka about the emergence of staking players live and online.

Here is a link to the google search which should let you read it.

Interesting read. Little curious to know what the probability of 80 winning players staked by IMAWHALE having a losing month is.

Interesting article.

Some observations from a recreational player who also backs players:

While some invest to decrease variance, some of us do it just to be in the game.

Would prefer playing MTT's myself but don't always have the time to play multi-day events. Staking a player for me is like buying in but having a better player take my seat.

Surprised that any player would ever agree to go into make up. As a professional outside of poker, can't understand why someone would give up future success.

Sitting at the same table with a player you have a piece of is a lot like trading stocks with insider information. Anyone who says they're going to play the same against their own interests at the table is a good bluffer.

seemingly most staking comes from inside the game, what about staking from outside sources...

Interesting to non-players. Was a little boring and full of things I already knew. It's good for the general public to understand the business practices in poker.

I'm surprised she didn't interview Devonshire. Just another horse I guess.
