Cool, what games you play?

So, grinding poker, even in small stakes, you can earn that a year or get a nice extra income.

Been doing it since 2008.
Portugal seems near perfect when it comes to cost of living, quality of life, and weather. Whats the online situation? Is Portugal still ring fenced or can you play vs FR/IT/SP?

We can play vs FR/ES/PT and still waiting for Italians.

Things got a lot better, but they could have been even better if Spain wouldn`t allow other countries apart from those.

Neverthless it is expected to get way better with more operators plunging in, what is supposed to happen in the end of the year(ish).

You can make more money working elsewhere. It is said Portugal is tax-free even for pro players, but you won't collect pension like that and I don't think they will support your housing in Portugal when you retire w/o a cent. They will be happy to take your increased rake, though. Temporarily, not all a bad idea but they are ring-fenced with the Mediterranean countries.

Are there many online guys doing it in the late 30s and 40s? I could imagine lot of live players doing it in their late 30s and 40s easily as most of them are around that age at the casino.

But online, especially those that play say mtt, doesn't fatigue set in? Also what about playing many tables? When you are younger, you could play lot of tables easily such as those who 12 table or even 24 table. Are there online mtt regs that are late 30s or 40s that play at least 12 tables on a normal schedule? Because there doesn't seem to be that many names like say johnnybax or sheets right? The only guy i could think of is that streamer from canada bigdog or something like that. Are there even online poker streamers that are in their late 30s? I don't even recall a guy in his mid 30s doing any poker twitch stream etc.

Is playing online more fatiguing than playing live though? There are pluses and minuses to both. At least online you are in your own home, own chair etc. Online is more stimulating than live 9-handed snoozing.

This thread is stupid imo. You can play cash or mtts full time whether you're 20 or 50. You just need to be healthy. A healthy 40 year old can grind high volume mtts as well as anyone.

Take your shot OP. Likely it won't work out well or even close to what you need. But maybe you will be one of the few who get there without becoming a burnt out degen. Maybe you will keep a career and use poker as a hobby that pays for itself or even supplements your real life income. Anyway you should try it and find out if it will work out for you. If you are not delusional it should not take long for you to see.

I play less table than I used to but It's more due to the state of the games than age I believe, I'm only 32 though

I'm 52 and I'm not a pro by a long shot. The only time I can imagine playing on anything like a daily basis is if I retire and spend my last years at the casino, drooling over the cocktail waitresses while sipping my coffee. I hate internet poker.
But, unless you're a real crusher, what do you do if you want to take vacation. Since a get buy grinder is self employed, who's going to cover the missed income?
Has anyone touched on this subject?

If youre in a position where you'll be destitute by not playing for four days, what's the point?

Point well taken. I was thinking of the average Low stakes pro who earns the agreed upon 60k yearly. Not the Negreanus of the poker world.
After all life expenses, can you afford to go on an unpaid vacation? I was just wondering if any of the people who aspire to become pros ever take that into consideration?

It’s been discussed a great deal. ITT too most probably. I think someone educated on employment benefits came up with a figure to compare earnings

imo if you're single and can't vacation/live it up on 60k/year then you have terrible spending habits

Anyone that chooses poker full time is not healthy (at least mentally), isn't that the point?

Former "crushers" go from delusional $100/hr winrates to humping a **** job just to get by. If they were as intelligent, brilliant, hard working etc as they touted themselves on the upswing, then why are they now working jobs such as security guard, video game tester, drifting around etc?

The facts are they're just stupid arrogant kids who don't know what the hell theyre talking about in and outside of poker.

Nobody really gets paid for being on holiday.

Employers look at the value the person creates during the time they actually are at work and make a pay offer based on that - which may be expressed on a per year or per week basis, but if it's the latter it's still based on annual value created divided by 52.
