If you shuffle an ordinary deck of 52 playing cards, chances are practically 100 percent that the resulting arrangement of cards has never before existed. The number of different ways to arrange five items is 120.. for ten its 3,626,800.. for fifteen items it's 1,307,674,368,000. The number of different ways to arrange 52 items is 8.066 x 10 to the power of 67. It such a big number that if you wrote each combination on a sheet of paper, and stack each sheet on top of the last. It would be 4.43 x 10 to the power of 47 light years high. Compare this to a mere 20 items is 2,432,902,008,176,640,000- a number larger than the total number of seconds that have elapsed since the beginning of time ten billion years ago.

Its a fun fact to think about.

Not that I care much, but how exactly did you get this number? Did you actually look up the thickness index of a piece of paper or you just said a random number that sounded cool, knowing no one cares to verify it?

I guess it's a good thing poker is an organized game then. Seperating cards in to starting hands... Kind of neat too that there are only 13 card values instead of 52, since Ad Ah is just as powerful as As Ac... Although technically no hand is 'unique' if there is a co/btn battle with AA vs KK, it doesn't really matter too much in what arrangement the other cards are laid out in since the action will *usually* be the same. I'm glad you watched Bill Nye today though, I love that guy.

those poor third world children that had to shuffle all those cards and check for duplicates just so that OP would KNOW there were no duplicates

If you flip a coin 1 to the 100,000th power it is likely that you will get at least 7 sets of 1 million straight heads or tails...
