Either way, I was googling ellix to show a buddy what he looked like after telling a few tall tales and came upon this thread. Its good to hear ellix is still alive and hustling, and that some of you still recall my glory days with him on the couch watching westerns as fondly as I do. Just dont go using a name that a parent could be upset for their kids calculus teacher. Im thinking pretty much every second of my life during the writing of that blog would constitute a fireable offense in the wrong hands.
There is no 'careful' at this point.
Your real identity is now entered into the book of Google as being associated with that blog. I'd suggest you IM a mod here, have them edit out your real name and then you have little to worry about since the cache will eventually update itself to reflect the edited content.

You can bet your ass that some high strung ******* parent would DEFINITELY have an issue with that blog and you teaching their precious little Junior.

There is a whole generation coming up that's going to have a lot of youthful indiscretions documented online for the world to see... The French are debating "Right To Forget" legislation, as far as internet data goes. It's just a totally weird thing, having stuff like this live on well after you've moved past it. This is one of those things Eric Schmidt was talking about, when he said the internet is the first thing man has created that man does not understand. The implications of this stuff can be beyond our foresight.

IM mods (they're reasonable people), have them delete your personal information from this post, then you're good.

saw him at the bike about 3 months ago. looked a little slower, maybe a little more rough around the edges than his "he called me with jack-high days," but he looked OK.

there's plenty of time between blinds to take a few puffs.. And if it calmed him down it's not a bad thing to miss a blind.

I saw him recently at the LAPC and he was trying to bum a comp off his old backer in that tourney.

His backer said his greatest mistake ever in poker was not locking him in a room the night before. He said that Ellix went out and partied the night before that fateful 5k LHE where he blew the chiplead and came 7th for $40k. The backer said he wasn't sure Ellix would show up, and he was absolutely drunk when he played the final and played awful. Ellix was a bit emotional at hearing this, but understood.

Ellix made his backer over $100k in profit that year playing LHE in tourneys and live cash, but he got completely out of control shortly thereafter. His backer compared him to Stu Ungar in LHE when he had a clear head (he knew Stu Ungar too).

One thing is for sure, the hate for Jim McManus is universal and he lost a lot of respect quietly because of his behavior on the telecast. The edit didn't show all of his snide comments which seemed racially tinged to those who were there. Ellix says he doesn't remember much, but said McManus is a total idiot.

I've heard just in "poker gossip" that Jim McManus is just plain mean, arrogant and not a nice person to be around. Don't know whether it's true but just what I've heard about the man.

I got that impression from him, but I've only been at his table once, and that was probably the same 2005 WSOP.

I can say that Ellix Powers is alright and is clearly intelligent despite what people may think of him. He has struggled with addiction his whole life and there won't be a winning outcome I'm afraid to say. He seems like he could have gone a different path in life and ended up a doctor or school teacher, but that's what addiction can do to you.

Oh, I forgot the saddest part of story the backer told me. ESPN offered him $10,000 for a puff piece on his hard knock life story. He missed the interview which was to be before the final table and did not collect this money.

Wow, sad if true - remember those 2 guys that followed him outside of the horseshoe to smoke??? I'm sure they helped him spend his $40,000 real quick.

They most certainly were not his backers, although they may have been hoping for a stake from him if he won.

Ellix earned his way into the 5k, he was winning all kinds of money before that year's wsop in lhe. He didn't just randomly wind up at a final table.

Exactly, those 2 guys looked like the farthest thing from backers, lol

Spent a solid 45mins talking to him chain smoking the whole way outside commerce on a balcony. I must say, he is one of the most interesting people I've met, for sure. He had some good, smart, fun, crazy things to say about poker and what his world is like playing poker. I'm still not really positive if he was a happy or sad man. He seemed in good spirits but spoke a lot about his aches/pains. He was probably laughing or smiling 90% of the time I was around him, but what he was laughing or joking about left me unsure. He spoke intelligently and fairly proper about most stuff. Although, toward the end he suddenly made it very obvious he was in oi-mode and did not give a single **** about anything when he shouted into the sky "f*** that s***, I don't give a f***, man! f***!". He was on crutches at the time, he threw his beer can off the balcony, picked up the crutches, I opened the door and we walked back inside. Haven't seen him since.

I liked that guy.

Hope he is doing well.
