Keep in mind that I haven't spoken to a single doctor, and almost everything I am saying is from his GF, a few very quick sentences with his parents, from other friends, or my impressions from seeing him. The general sense is that this will take a LONG time, no matter what. There seems to also be a very wide range of possible outcomes and degrees of recovery. Sam (the gf) said that there are no definitive tests the docs can do right now to see where he's at, or where he will be in the future. They are basically trying to push him a little bit every day, seeing how much they can get out of him. For example they are asking him very obvious questions, and trying to train him to learn to say yes or no with blinks. "Is your dogs name melo?" "Is your dogs name spike?"-- that sort of stuff. They had him sitting up earlier today, and he kept his head upright for the first time on his own--apparently this is a big step.

These are the sort of things they are working on right now, so I have no idea what they are even thinking about for 6, 12, 24 months down the line.

Hopefully, you or others among his friends can convey the support he has from everyone here, many of whom (like me) have never met him. I don't want to start a whole mind vs. body, Deepak Chopra type of debate (especially in this thread), but if there is any chance that it keeps him encouraged in his recovery, then more power to it.

I miss his youtube videos He was going for Supernova Elite too and I was following

my thoughts and prayers are for kevin and his family. He is a big inspiration to me. I truely believe his youtube video "Choose to be awesome" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDS9xKk_mz8) helped me take down my first major tournament, in which i got my biggest payout 7k!

I hope and pray you will get better,Kevin, and YOU WILL GET BETTER and you get back to dominating the felt!

It looks like his condition is improving which i some great news. Our bodies are incredible when it comes to healing itself. I hope he will fully recover.

I had never heard of Kevin, but having read through this thread, he has obviously been a positive influence on a lot of people and seems to be a great person (I liked the video 'choose to be awesome' very much). I truly hope he comes out of this and that his recovery is complete. Good luck to him, to his family, and to those close to him in getting through this.

My roommate is Kevin's cousin. I met Kevin last year and I have to say that he is hands down one of the nicest people that I have ever met in my life. We held a bowl-a-thon a couple of weeks ago for him. I still sport my "Kevin Phwap Ship It Holla" bracelet every single day. The most recent update is that they are taking the trach out and he will be able to breathe on his own. Next step is to try and eat food like jello and pudding. But he appears to be doing really good on physical therapy.

Keeping this thread live and open. Really praying for him every single day, he's one of those people that you meet that makes such an impact is such a short amount of time. It's a rarity but he has it. Please keep the positive vibes, thoughts, and prayers coming!!!

it's been a minute, updates?

the word is that kevin's tracheotomy was removed so hes breathing on his own. im not sure of this its just what was being said. hes also getting moved to 'the best rehab center in the country' in denver.

he continues to make progress. besides doing some simple communication with his eyes (see http://t.co/LePY2tEoOe) he also was lifting a 3lb weight, holding it and letting it go on command. this stuff is awesome news because hes getting some function back. his dad said he's made some noises that sound just like kevin.

I know every case is different, but my mother had one of these about 10 months ago, and the first neurologist to see her did not think she'd make it. She was 74. He said the bleed was really big and deep at the center of her brain. Eventually, her body reabsorbed most of the blood on the brain, and after therapy, she is now at 90%+ of where she was before the stroke. The body really can do wonders to heal itself. Kevin has youth on his side too. All that being said, I don't think my mother's actual condition ever got as bad as what has been described here. She never really lost her ability to speak for example.

Just wanted to send out my prayers to Kevin and his family/friends. This is truly an inspirational story in so many ways! Keep fighting Kevin there is no doubt you will make it! Wishing you the best and here is hoping to a speeding recovery!

I've never met Kevin but definitely wanted to take a moment to send some positive energy and prayers to him, his girlfriend and his family. It seems like he is really a great kid.

i got an update from irieguy yesterday who had visisted kevin in colorado. he said when he entered his room, kevin's eyes were tracking him, which wasnt happening before. also kevin could answer yes or no questions and exhibited understanding. like irie would ask him a question where yes was the answer and kevin would say yes, then he would flip the question around and kevin would give the opposite answer. kevin conveyed that he knew why he was in the hospital. also he can hold his head up when being pushed around in the wheel chair and has gained a few very small motor skills back like lifting his leg (he can do one side much better than the other) and grabbing things

I just returned from visiting Kevin and he has made a ton of progress in the few weeks since I last saw him. I just want to clarify that Kevin was communicating by blinking his eyes or squeezing his hand, he is not yet able to speak. But he is definitely capable of understanding questions and responding, which is a huge difference from just several days ago. It looks as though he will be moving to a rehab facility within the next few weeks and hopefully from there he will be able to go home. Nobody knows yet what the upper limit of his recovery will be, but we are all hopeful and excited about his progress so far.

My thoughts are w Kevin and those who love and know him. I pray for his full recovery.
