All we can do is hope, and be there to support his family and SLF.

Wow, so scary that something like this can happen so suddenly to someone of his age.

What kind of odds is someone in this condition given?

Yeah according to what I've seen this was an abnormality he was born with that was essentially a ticking time bomb. Apparently odds of recovery aren't very good but since he was able to receive immediate medical attention there is a chance. Hopefully he beats the odds and makes it.

So scary that something like that can happen so suddenly. He sounded very upbeat on his twitter account just a day or two before Really hope he makes it, seems like an awesome guy.

I've seen it a few places and don't really understand the hate for Aguiar's tweet. It's an incredibly helpless feeling knowing your friend is in critical condition and not being able to do anything about it. Obviously winning a poker tournament means virtually nothing in the grand scheme of life, but you just want to do something for your friend. Maybe it's give some of the winnings towards his medical bills, or use whatever small platform you get from winning a bracelet to get the word out about the fundraiser to help his family or just tell people how awesome Kevin is. Maybe knowing that his friends still have Kevin in their thoughts while playing is uplifting to his family.

But what is stupid is posting in ****ing NVG criticizing someone for dedicating something to their sick friend, regardless of the motivation.

Kevin may have suffered a subdural hematoma. Loss of consciousness is one of the key symptoms.

The slight reduction in swelling of the brain is a hopeful sign. If that continues, there may be hope for recovery.

Same here. I never met Kevin but I've seen a couple of his youtube update videos. Seems like a really good guy and it saddened me to hear this news. I hope he can make a strong recovery. Thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.

Kevin really is a great guy. One of the nicest, friendliest people I've ever met. His girlfriend, Sam, is just as sweet. My thoughts are with them both.

In a game filled with so many scumbags and lowlives, Kevin is one of the good ones. I only know of him through his videos on YouTube and that memorable bubble hand in the Main Event in 2010, but thats enough to know the guy has a heart of gold. Sending positive thoughts his way, was really bummed to hear about his condition. If anyone deserves to pull through, its Kevin.

I'll nit it up a bit, sorry.

Probably not a subdural. They're pretty much a disease of screaming alcoholics or due to trauma. (The alcoholics usually have them due to a fall, but for some complicated reasons you don't care about they also have a significant risk of spontaneous SDH) The treatment for SDH is pretty much surgical - not having seen any mention of surgery, that would make this diagnosis much less likely.

In a young person, more likely cause is a bleed from either an aneurysm or AVM. Severity can range from trivial to lethal. Not seeing the scans, I can't be helpful in terms of outcome, but I would note that a couple of people I've seen with what looked like non-survivable bleeds walked out of the hospital. So good wishes to him and his family.

Add - I didn't see that he was induced into a coma. This generally indicates severe brain swelling is present - and as noted above would not go along (generally) with a diagnosis of SDH

I don't know anything about medical stuff but Kevin did have surgery the night it happened to remove the blood clot, which was described as being the size of a fist. Irieguy, who is his close friend is a doctor and posted about his condition on 2p2-

Like I said I really don't understand any of the details, but I have gone to see him several times and the situation is still extremely bad, but there have been some signs of hope.

As Irieguy said in the posts linked above Kevin had "a ruptured arterio-venous malformation in his brain, a congenital condition that has essentially been a ticking time bomb for him since probably birth." It's just a hugely unlucky thing that he did nothing to cause.

Kevin has been a great friend in the last 8 or so years I've known him, and as I'm sure most who have crossed paths with him will attest is an all around fun, positive and caring person. Rooting harder for him to have a positive outcome from this than anything ever.
