Most people have delusions of grandeur when it comes to being a professional gambler. People think of guys like Mikki Mase when they think of the lifestyle of an professional gambler. Balling out of control and showing off on Instagram.

Kessler is the realistic depiction of a professional gambler. Dress and live modestly while taking every +EV spot you can find, whether its bumming rides on social media to save on gas, getting as many meal comps as possible, waiting until the Jackpot on a slot machine is high enough so that it is 50.0000001% EV to play (and tell no one about it), etc.

Credit to him, he has been doing it a long time, but personally, I would find that lifestyle to be miserable.

Has he ever had a girlfriend or been married?

That is an accomplishment in and of itself.

From what I've heard multiple times from multiple sources is that he frequently butts heads with dealers and poker room staff. Again, my only personal experience with him is playing ONE time live in a fixed-limit mixed-cash game.

As soon as the game started his mouth was open and complaining. He generally had a miserable disposition to be around and just didn't have a positive vibe for the table, he came across as a miserable regular, which doesn't make being at his table enjoyable.

I do think he does advocate for things that are good for poker players in general, but his overall approach is off-putting and doesn't ingratiate him with poker room staff. You get more bees with honey they say....

Kessler is a great guy to play with, has always been pleasant enough the various times i've drawn his table over the years and he's a good advocate for the game even if obviously he can be socially awkward in how he does it at times but clearly he has a lot of passion for getting good structures/consistent rules in place and so on and obviously floor people are free to ignore his suggestions if they want to but advocating for better games (in his opinion at least) is not something that should be mocked.

I don't think anyone including the man himself would claim he's beating high stakes games, there's no shame in grinding random lower stake stuff if he can do it comfortably and enjoy the grind.

The people mocking/memeing/trying to bully a grown man in the thread are a bunch of ****ing losers and you should be ashamed of themselves.

Full disclosure; am not friends with Allen Kessler and don't know him outside of having played live tourneys with him a single digit number of times over the years and he's always come across to me as one of the good guys in poker.
+1 agree with SwoopAE on this one. In game full of some pretty awful people Allen being quirky is pretty tolerable and at times entertaining. #complainsaw

I think he's just trying to establish if he can make good / normal interpersonal relationships which seems a reasonable question on this thread

Unless it was a backhanded homophobic comment but by gf / wife I would interpret as any partner

That's exactly what my question was about but dude wanted to act like the board police. Little ego boost got him all excited.

thought he was trying to get in chainsaws pants tbh. why else would u ask about someone's status. If life skills were a requirement for HoF i think some people in there would have some issues.

It's not a requirement for HoF and clearly has nothing to do with it. It's a point of interest. The type of thing that gets spoken about when just about any semi public figure is discussed.

Some people either like to be deliberately obtuse or have a similar level of soft skills as AK himself

Not sure if you were referring to me or the people commenting on AK ability to have relationships on a poker message board... Actually probably were referring to me if I can't tell the difference I guess.

A grown man who apparently needs another to come to his stirring defense on an Internet forum. Get a grip of yourself

Last time I was playing in the US I got to final table in 1k or 2k PLO8 with Allen Kessler. Matt Savage brought donuts for everyone and Allen insta sprinted to see what's in there. It was funny because no one else moved so it wasn't really a race. Allen ate so many donuts he got so full he didn't complain for like good 15 minutes, I think that is why Savage brought the donuts. After Allen busted out someone asked "Matt, have you accepted Allen's friend request already?" to which Matt replied, "Yeah, right!".

I used to work with a guy who had a very high salary and net worth but he always searched for coupons and made sure he got his 5c for his empty soda cans. It's just the way some people like to do things and they get a satisfaction over it. In some sense it's like a hobby. And I have no idea who Mikki Mase is (never clicked that thread) but I think at least half of the people attracted to professional gambling do it mostly for the freedom and the ability to wear whatever you like to work.

Never played with him but could see how he might be a little annoying at the table. Still overall, he's probably a net good for the community regarding his advocacy for improving structures and possibly a few other things. So I don't see the need for a special thread mocking him.
