With one hidden dishonest action Alec has done for himself what he couldn't have done through a thousand honest actions ..that is stay on top of nvg for so long.

My respect for Alec has never been higher. He plans for things that ordinary honest people could only dream of. He sees the matrix. He knows the score.

It's too bad that being an nvg pariah has little effect in the professional world. At least we will always have something to laugh about.

And that matrix bit is actually true. In one of his *cues pop music* Ask Alec videos he mentions 'reading the matrix' as a description of in game thought. It may have been one of the Dan Wolf videos; I've embarrassingly watched a dozen or so of them for sheer cringe factor.

He was playing/coaching a student at the same table while texting throughout. I thought it was a bit scummy as they pretended they were acquaintances while clearly soft playing each other.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but genuinely would like to know what you think he should be doing instead. As they approached the table should he have disclosed "this is my student by the way". I can't imagine that going over well.

You can't really play just as hard vs a student as you would anybody, that seems almost malicious because they tell you everything about how they think, and their strat is yours, so you're using that info to gain max $$$. I agree soft-playing is not great either, but as long as it's nothing more then you would do vs any "friend" can't be that bad.

As for texting, note-taking seems fine, texting them during the session should prob be avoided.

I have no skin in this and this is not defending Alec, just curious what others think the logically appropriate approach should be.

i dont softplay anyone. terrible coaching, softplaying each other makes you a better player right(sarcasm)??? im trying to take everyone's money, if i had a student, i would let him know we dont softplay each other and im coming after you the same as i would anyone else of a similar skill level.

checking it down between friends is for pussies. its psychotic to me to softplay anyone. total wimpery.

Don't coach anymore but I wouldn't sit in the same game as my student.

I even passed on sitting behind my students when asked because 1) not a very effective way to use the hours 2) would make me feel uncomfortable

Torelli pulled another angle on LATB last night. They are at river, guy has moved all in. Alec is tanking forever with just a pair and other guy has a set. Alec pretends to drop a chip like he called to garner a reaction then scoops it back up. Anyone else catch this?
