Seems like a bad place to put your big chips.

re: Alec Torelli Caught Angleshooting

Alec plays a lot on stream;having watched a ton of his play on LATB and PNIA, he rarely, if ever, sits shallow. I'm sure he thinks he is a favorite in any of these streamed games and has the resources to play deep. I say all of that to say:
1. it isn't an angle.
2. any player with half a brain should know he isn't short stacked in that spot.

This. I've never played somewhere where that wasn't the rule.

If you're playing at these stakes and are hiding large denomination chips in your stack, you're either a fish or angle shooting. These aren't rec players playing 1/3 at the local casino.

I don't think I've ever wanted to see a Jack hit 5th Street so much in my life.

re: Alec Torelli Caught Angleshooting

You have to have all big chips out in front, but if you're the player that couldn't see them, it was your responsibility to know how many chips your opponent had.

Am I supposed to ask every player that I play a pot with if they have any chips that I don't see? I'm sure that'd go over well.

The 10,000 should only be in play if the other player wants it to be. That'll prevent all players from hiding chips

re: Alec Torelli Caught Angleshooting

i dont think he had initial malicious intent and was purposely trying to use this as an angle, but when the situation came about i think he figured out what happened and figured go ahead and push his edge here.

I think the fair thing to do would be to offer to run the board out for whatever the 2k raise was or whatever. its not like AQ couldnt be up against 7s here

1. at the very least it was a terribly douchy way to handle the misunderstanding on alec's part. the follow-up video where he blames the villain isn't exactly helping.
2. any player with half a brain should be afforded the opportunity to sit down and play for fun without others (ESPECIALLY long-time professionals) breaking the rules (by not having his big denomination chips visible instead of hidden behind the larger stacks).

but that would require taking responsibility for his own actions which is so much harder than just blaming someone else.

He rarely sits shallow so I'm 100% sure he knows how to stack his chips properly.

no its the players responsibility to make sure the chips can be seen, big chips in front or on top, not the other players to know how much he has. the floor made a bad ruling.

This really could be an honest mistake, but I've just seen so much scummy **** at this point, and the fact that he wouldn't open a discussion for a smaller pot because of his mistake is pretty cold to say the least. Theres no way I could take that money and feel ok about it.
Weird, I feel like I usually agree with you at the table on most things but I don't agree here. The chips aren't blatantly hidden and it's not at all a secret Alec almost always sits deep. Haven't played a decent amount of cash with him I'm pretty darn confident this is unintentional and I also occasionally set my big chips aside like this without thinking much of it (probably a side effect of mostly playing limit). This is why I almost always ask players in the hand if they have any large chips I'm not seeing, and I think that responsibility still falls to the player on the other side.

+1.

People like Alec have played way too many live sessions and they know better. Not putting your big chips in front or on top of your stack is not a mental lapse, but a deliberate way to hide your chips. 'Clever' Angle and indefensible.

The chips are blatantly hidden. His stack forms a wall around his 2 large chips such that only the two players directly next to him could possibly see them. He basically hid them as much as possible to still allow for a sliver of doubt in the event that he gets accused. The only way they could be more hidden is if he formed a complete wall around them... Given his level of experience, this constitutes blatantly hidden.

What do you mean, "it's not at all a secret Alec almost always sits deep."? Are all poker players supposed to be Alec Torelli enthusiasts and know he always sits "deep"? Not even sure why people think this is a reasonable point to bring up and I saw it mentioned by another poster ITT. It wouldn't be unreasonable for another pro to know next to nothing about Torelli, let alone how many bbs he usually buys in for.

Everything about the way Alec handled the situation screams angle and anyone with half a brain and some live poker experience realizes that. After Wolf moves all in he instantly picks up the large chips and asks if Wolf saw them, knowing all along he obviously didn't. It's pretty disgusting to watch him play it off as an honest mistake and then pretty much brag about how he made a genius call.
