No, Alec shouldn't say "I'm calling no matter what." It will allow the other guy to play perfectly against him. The other guy will of course want to keep the 10k out if he has a strong hand, and take it back if he doesn't. Even though IMO Alec has a responsibility to make his large denomination chips visible to everyone, the other guy shares some responsibility too.
It would've been the decent thing to do for Alec to ask the guy what he wanted to do, and if the guy said take 10k back, let him. Then Alec can shove/flat/or do whatever he feels is optimal.
