I have just seen the latest advert from partypoker and I noticed it is only aimed at mid to late 20's / 30's males, with cropped beards, pony tails and puffed out chests....do they think females do not play poker ?

I am quite surprised this was allowed to go out, considering the parent company "Entain" has a female CEO

This is quite sad considering poker is a level playing game and to not even consider adding females to their marketing campaign, highlights how sexist the poker world still is.

I may well be in a minority, but surely bringing more women to the game is beneficial to its growth and to target a specific genre is just degrading to anyone outside of their marketing campaign

Obviously I do not fit their marketing target - but excluding women, is bang out of order

According to this site 95% of poker players are men

https://www.zippia.com/professional-.../demographics/

Why would they care what 5% of their player base thinks?

The marketing branch of a casino chose to make an ad targeting the demographic who will statistically lose most money at their site instead of a group which is largely risk averse and anti gambling

NVG has effectively been taken over by the Andrew Tait-loving incel demographic, so you're unlikely to get a reasonable discussion going here.

Having said that, there's a difference between targeting a demographic, and excluding a demographic.

Having said that, advertising has always been purely about $ and they only follow social trends or 'do the right thing' when the $ says to. When the industry creed is 'any publicity is good publicity' they will not really gaf about being called out for being regressive.

why expect a reasonable discussion when your post is unreasonable to start with. Targeting your primary audience is advertisement 101. Whats next men crying because tampon Ads dont show a lot of dudes.

I get the idea behind trying to make things a little more "inclusive" - there, in some scenarios, can be legitimate barriers to entry into fields that are largely dominated by straight white male people for those who lack one or more of these characteristics - but this isn't really one of those scenarios

You can play poker (and even climb the ranks) no matter who you are - white, black, male, female, straight, gay, trans, Christian, athiest, doesn't matter. Poker doesn't really discriminate, but it's just a fact that most people who play poker are straight men. There's nothing inherently bad or "regressive" about this. This disparity hasn't been artificially maintained in any way, and isn't the result of complex sociopolitical issues - women just gamble a bit less often than men do, and they generally seem to prefer other forms of gambling

So it makes perfect sense that their marketing team would just super lean into that. For reasons I don't quite understand, there's a perception among some men that poker is a markedly masculine activity - "playing poker with the boys" or some such. People that think this way are probably more likely to be recreationals who play poker as a social activity. Pretty genius marketing if you think about it

I've seen the occasional positive reference to Andrew Tate on these forums, but I think pretty much anyone here with two brain cells to rub together can tell that he's a grifter clown. No way that NVG is full of incels who love him lol

As you say you are not their marketing target so why should they care what you think? And unless the ad has more than twenty people showing a female would over represent their presence; why do you feel they should do that?

I just saw an ad for Allstate in which Mayhem is playing one-on-one basketball with some middle-aged white guy. My take was that women, young folks, senior citizens, black people, Latino people, Asian/Pacific Islander people and native American people are not eligible for that company's homeowner's insurance.

In the ad, Mayhem reminds the guy that he "stole Kelly Carter in high school," but that could have been a boy or girl. So at least Allstate is open to both straight and gay white males! Hashtag woke.

The argument in question is never about eligibility, it's about targetting.

American tv advertising can be pretty batshit crazy, but no, I didn't think you were telling the truth about that particular advert, at the same time as thinking you were still trying to make a point.

In what order should the banging occur, and, why do you want to exclude women ?

Then again, y'all not from around these parts, are ya stranger ? Out here in the West, men are men, and our "closely cropped" sheep get a bit skittish around strangers.

I started playing poker around 2008. I've seen online operators throw millions in marketing money towards she/her for years. It all amounted to nothing. When it comes to live poker in London I see fewer females than in 2008. Usually the player closer to a female around is me :-)

So I guess it makes sense to re-target marketing budgets to where your customers come from.

True story....I discovered online poker after seeing an online advert about Annette15 after she won the WSOPE, basically taunting me "This woman won, what can you do?!" and like an idiot I thought if some young girl can win surely I can. 15 years and six figures in the red later I really wish they had used some douche bag with a man bun and a puffed out chest in their advetising so I could have never fallen for the trap of playing poker....and I'm sure my wife more than agrees.

So in other words...*****

But you've got to lead the 95% to believe that there's a good chance of sitting down next to a hot chick for a few hours.
