I used to troll Torelli online, but in the last 6 months I've came around and think he was a victim of Doug's bullying machine.

As someone who also gets recognized in public, it can be annoying and it's hard to always stay humble when that happens. I happened to bump into him once and said hi, told him I've seen him play on tv a few times and he's a good player. Rather than just say thanks and carry on, he was actually interested to talk with me a bit. We had a moment. LOL.

all he had to do was just take ownership and apologize for his angle and everyone would of been fine with it. he doubled down that he did nothing wrong so hes kind of a douche/scumbag for that.

The accusation was more about revising history. Nothing wrong with licking dicks rly, just another way of saying nut huggers. If a mod wants to edit that go ahead. Might still rustle some jimmies though

He handled the situation poorly, but I found it telling that Galfond mentioned this case in his post about Doug's bullying. Obviously, Galfond doesn't see Alec as some chronic slimeball or hustler who should be driven from the game.

I also think when Galfond said Doug picks on "easy targets," he was tactfully saying maybe some of these people don't have the highest level of self-awareness, or are out of step where Doug/his team are very adept at SM and PR. Alec misspeaks and can be kind of goofy and a lot of what Doug was doing was mocking Alec's personality, the quality of his videos and things like that. So basically using Alec's mistake as a pretext to bully the uncool kid who isn't really equipped to stand up for himself.

I think Doug rationalizes these things by viewing himself as comparable to a political satirist who targets bad politicians who do a lot of damage to the world. A bully of bullies. But there is a line somewhere between The President of the US and a person who made a dumb tweet where this stops being applicable. Alec didn't start an unjust war or steal a bunch of public money. Though he does choose to promote himself as a public figure.

Now, maybe Alec does have a lot more shadiness in his past. I don't know. I kind of skimmed old posts someone linked to about chip dumping, and it didn't look good. I didn't feel like digging into it at the time. But I certainly don't hate the guy because of the hidden chip hand and many people have gotten passes for doing far worse.

I think the thought did occur to him that he could coach me, but he was still friendly when it was obvious I wasn’t interested. Not that I didn’t find value in it, he’s an extremely talented player, I just am very busy and wouldn’t have the time required to invest in it.

Lmao the guy accidentally hid half his stack in a big pot.. which is.. whatever, it was an accident. But then made a VLOG about it and told the other guy to be more careful when it was 100% his fault. Doug's coverage of it was completely unbiased. Torelli wasn't a victim of anything.

This is an excellent and spot-on comment. I think it perfectly sums up Polk’s motivations in attacking Torelli, while also not letting Torelli entirely off the hook for his own sometimes awkward behavior. I thought Torelli handled himself poorly in the initial incident, but that Doug went way, way over the line in his response. I personally find Torelli to be difficult to watch—he strikes me as a little self-involved and a lover of the spotlight—but that certainly doesn’t make him a bad person, and I agree that these characterizations of him as a scumbag are unfair and are driven largely by Polk’s attacks.

Doug was actually really gracious and gave Alec the benefit of the doubt, stating that he didn’t believe he angled intentionally.

If anything, Torelli should be thanking Doug because before his video it was just accepted that Alec maliciously angled the **** out of his opponent.

Doug really went out of his way to be fair to Torelli.

I stopped watching doug years ago due to growing tired of his schtik and lame attemps at humour but the tortelli video was incredibly tame compared to others. He stated multiple times he didn't think alecs chips not being in clear view was intentional. His issue (and many other posters itt) was that alec made a video trying to show his shrewdness in getting all the chips as the incident arose and showed zero remorse in what was an otherwise unfortunate situation.

I don't think this alone is worthy of Alec having the label he has but there is other incidents and threads of him coming across as less then stellar.

Overall he has taken more **** then deserved imo but that isn't due to Doug's video. Feel free to point out specifically what in Doug's video was disingenuous.

Yeah if Alec was like "my bad man, I messed up" and tried to find a way to make it fair for the rec, that would be one thing. But then he ensured that the pot went his way and on top of that was in his video basically saying "hahaaa that'll teach you to check how much your opponent has bro" and at that point I wasn't offended at Doug's video.

If you say that Doug was "being fair" and are only referencing his initial video, then you don't understand where the bullying comments are coming from.

Doug has made many references verbally and visually to Alec since the hidden chip. These are always in videos Doug is making regarding current cheating issues/scandals. He hasn't let that one incident die. That's why so many people remember it as if Alec were a repeated angler.

And if I recall correctly hasn't Doug even said that Torrelli should be kept off of big streams? All because of the one hidden chip? If you watch Doug's content regularly, he behaves with a vendetta.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the video, but as I recall, Doug basically implies that Alec purposely hid his large chips to set up an angle later in the session. Thing is, Alec moved those chips out of site of that player far earlier. It would be different if he tried to sneak them out of site after seeing his own hand or before shoving. Fact is, Doug has always been jealous of Alec for a variety of reasons. Alec has always been a Better poker player than Doug. Alec has won a ton more money than Doug, and that’s not even close. Alec has a much better training site and he will tell you all about it, but not in the blatant self promotion way Doug does. Also, Alec is a better businessman.

As I recall, Torelli incrementally moved said big chip 1mm at a time from plain sight to out of the picture for most of the table.
