Basically Keating says a lot of the recent HCL success came from his ideas including the Million dollar game and documentary to which he received no public recognition for and wants equity in HCL. Ryan publicly acknowledges what Keating has contributed to HCL but will not give equity to Keating. Keating quits HCL.

Twitter spaces lasted hours last night with Garrett addressing many topics. Anyone have a relink?

In what world does a customer get to demand equity?

He can ask for anything he wants. Up to HCL to give it to him or not. He's not a customer in the typical sense. He definitely brings in viewers.

When the customer is also the product it makes sense.

well it seems like HCL is easily able to find rich donks these days. Almost every time i tune in i see a new face. Its like poker playing billionaires grow on trees. So i doubt he'll be missed.

HCL has been really stagnant lately. I don't blame Alan for wanting some kind of cut since he was one of the very few watchable players. I still have my doubts that the 1 million game will take place.

It's probably easy to find a rich whale to play once or twice - much harder to find whales like Keating willing to consistently play in the biggest games and lose millions.

This is one of those rare situations I think both sides are not in the wrong. Keating should definitely demand something back for all he does for the show. And Ryan and Nick are well within their rights to decline.

right.

And the Garret point from Keating was a bad one bc Garret's compensation from HCL was getting to play in these berry patch lineups despite being an excellent player.

Is Keating great, yes. But he’s been on the show like 5 times in 2 years?
If HCL had to pass out equity because people tuned in to watch them, Garrett should own half the show.
Getting Garrett on the show in its infancy was more meaningful than anything Keatings done. The YouTube thumbnails, the billboards, etc

Same for lesser “characters”, that tool Airball should ask, Luda, Ben

I guess it’s different for Keating because all he does is play with super whales, but the five and take of playing on the show for free is you get to play with unbelievably horrible rich poker player

Keating also had his own competing show/game too no? So it doesn’t even make sense to help them grow if he’s not getting compensated.

Coming up with the idea of a million dollar game is some serious out of the box thinking.

Just listened to the 14 min clip on Reddit. Keating really comes off like a narcissist moron here

Saying that before he came on the show they weren’t doing well… they were the same as LATB is just absolute garbage.
They were running games 5x a week with 6-10K viewers while LATB rebrand had 300-500 people a few days a week in darkness

He wants credit for Hustler’s success? Jesus

How poor is he, trying to get a percent of a percent of Hustler for playing on the steam a handful of times.

He also “Invented” Million Dollar Cash Game. Nobody had thought about it before Keating… a poker game with a million dollar buy in. Must be how the people at NASA felt when they got Apollo 11 right

He’s def inebriated.

Still shocking. He’s gotta be a trust fund kid now right? In one fell swoop he pretty much ruled out the people skills, math ability and investment prowess you’d expect a self made rich guy to have at least ONE of.

Maybe he’s a gigilo?

He was on edibles. Jeff Waffe the original host had to mute him even if he wasn't speaking because he kept interrupting with corny jokes and tangents.

It lasted for 3+ hours. I'm surprised it's not news on here with all the Garrett talk in the beginning. Thing's got heated when Negreanu came on but they hashed it out.

Keating says he's invested in tens of successful businesses, at least 25. One of his biggest payouts was a $100,000 investment into a company that was bought out for $1.4 billion. Much of this info was told by him out of the blue without anyone really asking or caring. It got awkward. He randomly says he's in a new poker movie coming out that will be as big or bigger than Rounders.

Keating also says he lost $13 million playing poker in the past 2 years but his main incentive for poker is to network and create the most action and pain for others, as opposed to Garrett, who plays only for monetary gain.

Hear me out, you take a really bad hand that people usually always fold… you put a special bounty on said hand, say 93o. If you win a pot with 93o everyone has to pay you a pre determined amount of money. Will increase action

2.5% please

I love fish mental gymnastics. Someone is playing poker to make money!!!! someone call the FBI

Theres plenty of people who get into social sports like golf, pool and poker to make friends and thats a great thing to do. Its up to Alan to get more out of poker then what he donated and not to be bitter in the end if things didn't work out the way he wanted. I think a lot of people don't understand what makes a good poker show, having a giant whale is about 20% of the equation and your only whale requirement is to show up.
