one of the many ways poker is a godd**n perfect metaphor for life. others include high barriers to entry in making real money and everyone being a liar. also drinks are overpriced and there never seem to be any good women around to talk to.
hahaha

Around the same time as this (2009 or 2010) there was an Ante Up for Africa tournament at the Sundance Film Festival. A buddy of mine was the tournament director and he supplied tables and dealers.

It was a $100r or something similar and they advertized donated prizes for the final 7-10 finishers including WSOP Main buyin with private jet airfare, a fancy watch, and smaller stuff like hotel stays.

No prizes were given to the winners, no money went to charity and I'm 90% sure dealers got stiffed too. Police were called and said that the organizer (some lady not Annie Duke) showed them receipts for expenses>money collected so they dropped it.

edit: Debbie Durkin was the organizer AFAIK http://www.prweb.com/releases/2009/01/prweb1876994.htm

[ ] Trusting professional poker players to run charity events was ever a good idea.

I am curious of where the 3 to 4% number came from. Didn't see it when I looked at the charity's tax return a while back.

I did notice that Anti Up was started with a few folks including Annie and Don pitching in I believe, $5K each and eventually they took the money back out.

I read the 2009 tax forms - look legit although $150K+ is under misc
went to website, no later ones posted.
How can this not be legit? ANNIE herself is the CFO and is an epic business person ->
Annie Duke has been lying extremly low in the live poker scene since the Epic Poker League filed for bankruptcy in the end of February. EPL generated only $37,052 during its short existence, however the bankruptcy showed that Duke paid herself $299,784 for her time as commissioner while Epic Poker amounted debts of over $8 million.

I find it interesting that when she was on Trumps show celebrity apprentice, her charity was -> Refugees International (RI)

is that where ante up for africa donates their donations?

What a thread this is. It really is disgusting what lots of name poker players get away with, and you would think that one day a prison sentence is going to have to be the fate of somebody. How many shady deals can people be involved in without someone getting in real trouble. They must just laugh.

If I were Admo I wouldn't have given them a penny. Then after what he experienced with the loss of his newborn shortly after that, I would have probably channeled that energy into really exposing these people for what they are.

(Speaking of the above picture, remember Joy Miller's LOL Playboy Mansion charity tournament? Poor Terrence Chan!)

But back on topic...

Yeah, I don't know why Admo gave these jerks one red cent. Their treatment of him was beyond awful and was in fact a caricature of a shady, overaggressive charity that feels entitled.

He should have donated what he felt was proper to "competing" charities, and then encouraged all other players to do the same in the future.
