Probably should go into the category of conspiracy theory, but there is another link to Annie and Hunter. Annie twitted on June 9th "Movie of the day: Night of the Hunter. Robert Mitchum and Shelly Winters in a movie so creepy it will haunt your dreams. I promise!" (http://www.pokernews.com/online-poke...eDuke/?page=26)
Why not just Have a slighty bigger than usual rake....say $5000 + $1000......the charity get the rake.......then when the deep cashers give money out of Choice, it carrys a bit more weight...and are then not lambasted when refusing hobsons choice.
somewhere earlier in this thread, it's mentioned that Nevada law doesn't allow a tourney to do that.
adam is not going to keep any of the $, i dunno where this started.
he spoke w/ a few of us before the tourney, basically saying what shaundeeb wrote about contributing 100% once the company Annie is the #2 spokesperson for finally made good on their word to the poker community & released the full list of superuser names & granted access to hand histories. he even has a website setup for it, i cant remember the name.
also, this event had UB all over it, a number of the celebrities were wearing UB patches & hellmuth was the MC for the duration of the time i was in the mtt.
admo a standup guy & deserves nothing but our support in this matter.
so many great posts in this thread, this being one of them.
johnny hughes, shut it down you con man and supporter of cheats and con-artists.
annie duke is a person who i thoroughly despise. i hope she reads 2+2 so she can see all the hate.
never let up the pressure on the thieving scum that is UB.
I've been speaking with two charities that both called me back on the phone within 12 hours after my email inquiry. They've gone to great lengths to send me all the information I've asked for. Their finanical reports are posted on their web sites. They've explained the government matching funds that will multiply our donation to Darfur by 7.5 or 15 times, depending on the specific fund we give to. They've followed up many times and recommended books to read that align with their approach to tackling the Sudan crisis. One of the administrators at World Vision wrote to me in a handwritten letter that she is praying for God to give my wife and I wisdom in our decision, whether we end up giving to their charity or another. (World Vision is Christian based)
In contrast Ante Up For Africa doesn't seem that interested in another $50k if it comes with questions attached. They have been asked many times to account for the $2.6M they've collected from poker players over the past three years.
Is it a direct funnel to other charities or is there AUFA overhead involved? Of the money that gets funneled to other charities, what percentage goes to which? Is it for relief or advocacy efforts, ie. is the money used to house refugees in camps, to feed and clothe them, to return them back to their homes, or to pressure leaders, governments and nations into action? What measurable impact has the 2.6M had thus far? When money goes to other charities, is it specifically earmarked for Darfur or could it get lumped into a general fund and possibly used for other efforts? What are the administrative and fundraising costs of all charities involved?
I would encourage you (or anyone) to ask Ante Up For Africa these questions once, twice, whatever it takes. Many have tried. AUFA isn't talking.
i really think this is the aspect that should be concentrated on by admo and this thread.
as true as all the annie duke/organisors' behaviour may be, this whole personal thing - as exemplified in admo's last gif - really detracts from it. also the ub stuff; the tournament is organised by one of their 'top pro's' so the site was obviously going to be all over it, so why enter it all if the ub association is such a problem?
i understand now that the money is won, admo feels a moral obligation to make sure his donation is used in the best way possible, but all this personal(ity) stuff just makes it all a bit tawdry.
but don't get me wrong, if this unearths that AUFA isn't using its charitable proceeds as well as it can or should be then that's great. But only because it will result in more help getting to the people who need it - not because annie duke may be a flawed character.
