I'm a Euro and just don't find him funny. '9 high like a boss' 'coconuts' 'monkey nuts' betting 180 the top score in darts and so on. That's not funny. It's just mindless waffle.

Fairly certain he just studied law and may or may not have a degree. He also might have a degree and doesn't have a practising certificate.

+1
People with options for their "entertainment" dollars are not going to want to be subjected to even the chance of someone like that at their table.

Shot Clock or GTFO with live tourney poker.

What makes you guys assume gender played into this in any way?*
well, with all the "women in poker" this, "4% women" that, "women coming to poker" the other thing being noticably mentioned at a high enough rate to likely be considered mentioned too often in some peeps opinions, i would have to think that thoughts of gender (influencing or not) have the possibility of sneaking into ones subconscious.

...snip, nvm...

i see i see now, i forgot it seems that the powers that be in the poker community are attempting to develop a new image/brand for poker... and whether the tool they use to complete that new branding will be the wiminz in pokerz thing or the be nice chitty-chat-w-randoms thing or a combination of both along with other efforts, one can rest assured knowing that all techniques of advertising and promotion will certainly be utilized and will ultimately help in contributing to the advancement of poker in a positive fashion. also, these tactics are going to be constantly thrown at us anyways regardless our opinion on the topic, so why bother voicing an opinion in the first place, amirite?

could be waay off

... and oh good, seems the 2016 wsop is an opportunity to apparently be water testing candidates for the new poker superstar personality/celebrity roles...

Caution: Spoilers in Video

...like hes been doing interviews for tv since a child, and auditioning for his future poker commentator offer

b4 wsop, bearded guy seems super humble, nervous, obviously leans heavily toward introvert type, classic beta nerd...

Spoiler:

...then watch any 2016 wsop clip of beard guy

oop, a few celebrity and fame/brand building classes, maybe some natures choice self help center( maybe some "yo dude, grow a beard real quick whala, brand recognition, and better than a Baby Costume!!!... heres your chance brah!! you got this, you just need to beef up that socially awkward personality brah!! try the selfdepricating comedy act brah!! make sure cameras are on brah!! Profit brah!!almost like a new identity for you brah!! you finally got your shot brah!!!Profit Profit bahahahahahaha!!!!???????),

then tahdaaah, 2016 WSOP Stage to perform for cameras!!

what a perfect fit will and alex would be as new up and comming superstar poker celebs!!!... gee, almost like they trained for it?

ill always have the above bad taste sorry ill be that "hater"

only two words for me to describe this entertainment? nerdly clever...arguably manipulative and hustler-like in nature, but clever. yay poker "community"

Re: "9 high like a boss"

I'm a recreational player so certainly not a tournament expert but wouldn't his antics be detrimental to the whole table? If the goal is to win the tournament shouldn't that mean you want to accumulate as much chips as possible or even if you slide into the final table you'd be too short stacked to have any chance at winning?

By his talking/stalling that would lower the total hands played per round and thus lower the potential opportunities to accumulate chips. Anyone who has to spend a whole day at his table would therefore have less chance of winning the whole thing relative to the other players not at his table. Shouldn't the whole table pressure this guy to stop the crap talk?

On the other hand those that want to just move up the pay ladder while others bust out won't complain.

Am I wrong on my assumptions?

The ESPN coverage is just a small sample of their overall play for the day, plus every table is going to have players that take a bit of time to make a decision, talk, aren't paying attention, etc - so it all evens out in the end.

Re: "9 high like a boss"

So, what is over the line at the table? Can we say or do anything, that is not profanity, while someone is concentrating on a decision for life changing money?

yah, yaH, yAH, YAH... over and over again.

Maybe boop, boop, boop. with a high pitch... over and over again.

These might be ridiculous examples but a line has to be drawn somewhere and who better to make the decision of where the line is drawn than the tournament director? OP must have an axe to grind to really think that the tournament director shouldn't decide where the line lies. There should always be some type of etiquette/decorum in any organized event. Poker is a thinking man's game. Not being able to think, because someone is chattering on and on incessantly, should never be an issue. You want to bring in casual players to the game? Not likely when they find out this is what they have to look forward to seeing.

Not sure who's a bigger clown, Kassouf or OP for starting this thread in his defense.

I think it was just a classic example of a pro owning a donk. It was a great line. Worst fold ever with QQ

Shows you just how much of a blithering idiot Jack Effel is. Guy is on a straight up power trip. Say what you want about Kassouf, he was trying to make conversation and make things entertaining for TV, cant say the same about 90% of the players in the WSOP who don't say a word and hide in their shades and hoodies.

If you watch the altercation in full, you'll realize that Jack was completely unreasonable. He literally didn't even try to understand the situation. Will was being very polite about trying to explain himself, but Jack just completely shut him up and didn't give him a chance to say a word.

I hope you read this Jack - you suck. Nobody likes you. Your decisions are ridiculously arbitrary. Please quit. Hope your power boost has given you some much needed self-esteem.

Edit - Good job on ESPN for not trying to hide the fact that Jack Effel is a complete moron as well.

BTW I'm tlaking about WSOP ME Ep 5, First hand of the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzWKF70CyBU

...And then for Stacie Matuson to basically blame Will for her horrendous fold like a big baby is so ridiculous and lel-worthy. What has poker come to?

Re: "9 high like a boss"

"Like a Boss"
The phrase stems from The Lonely Island‘s single “Like A Boss,” a parody of the Slim Thug song of the same name. Featuring Andy Samberg and Seth Rogen, the video premiered on Saturday Night Live as a digital short on April 4th, 2009. In the video, the Boss (Samberg) is asked to go over his daily activities during a performance review by Rogen’s character. While it starts out with daily office tasks, the lyrics evolve into impossible activities.
So, this idiot uses a worn-out phrase from 7+ years ago and people think it's cute, and the height of entertainment.

Got it.

I recall something about the woman having a position in a poker dealers organization...does jack know her from that? if so does that effect his ruling which seems really out of line....grounds for lawsuit?

Good point.....

https://www.wsopdealeracademy.com/about/

I'm aware that there is no way to prove this but between her being a woman and Jack knowing her personally I would say it was an incredibly biased decision.

Excessive tanking aside, this guy is clearly really polarizing.

Personally im a fan, I find his random banter, "One huuundred aaaand eeeighty" and other chatter interesting and funny.

*Tv* Poker needs more characters. This guy fits the bill IMO.

I think that people who don't like him are more likely to be people his act would work on.
To me he's entertaining - easy enough to take the piss out of him at the table and I doubt he'd mind.Certainly preferable to a table full of grumpy nits and silent hoodies
