I think a more elegant solution is called for. Putting my two cents in a new thread here:

The dealer laughed and got the reference, as did a couple of the mainly French Canadian players.

It went downhill after that, however, when players started getting upset at my "speech play" after a few hands; and one new guy to the table told me that I was the most annoying player he'd ever seen (after just 5 minutes at the table - I'd flopped the nuts and talked him into giving me half of his stack)!

The floor noticed the commotion and decided to break our table, out of turn, to reduce the tension. I told the guy, who knows me as a regular, that I was just joking around, but he said "we don't need any Kassouf behavior in here".

After a couple of very mild comments at a subsequent table, the floor guy told me he would give me a penalty if I continued to act up; and so it stopped there.

This just goes to show (a) how effective Kassouf's style is at tilting people to his benefit and (b) how TDs can easily police it out the game, if they wish.
great post and interesting experiment

Yep, you're right, new rule:

2015 WSOP Rule 63a: "Participants are allowed to use as approved electronic devices iPods, MP3 players and other music player or noise reduction headsets during Tournament play until they have reached the money in any Tournament."

2016 WSOP Rule 64a: "Participants are allowed to use approved electronic devices, iPods, MP3 players and other music playing or noise-reduction headsets during Tournament play until the participants have reached the final table in any Tournament."

Re: "9 high like a boss" aka "Check your privilege"

It's amazing to me how many people post that Kassouf is "good for poker". Let's be clear...he is good for poker RATINGS. A ****show sells. Sure, controversy draws eyeballs and sells. Hell, there was an article about his bust out in the NY Post this week.
However, as a rec player who has daydreamed about playing in the WSOP...I am far less likely to shell out 10 grand to do so if I am likely to play against Kassouf or some impersonator. So...plug that into your EV. Is that good for poker?
(To be clear...his table talk is annoying but I think bearable if he played at a normal pace. The excessive tanking combined with the talk, designed, as it were, to put people on tilt, is inexcusable and begs for a punch in the nose.)

Well it's really the players at other tables who are ICM-wise losing most by the excessive tanking. It's not possible to call a clock on the other table AFAIK.

As I said before, the dealer should whip out a clock or a sand timer when they don't move in rhythm. Just please don't give it a lame name not relevant to poker or other countries like "shot clock"

Obviously the whole of FT2 should be played hand for hand - or maybe orbit for orbit.

Josephy, you were way out of line, what a true clown you are.

Also benger coming across super-rattled/tilted. What a completely dumb loser you appeared to be that day. to the 9-Hi boss, who it'd be a pleasure to play with one day, more players like you are who is needed to bring interest to the game of poker. What a full table of gossipy dweebs I watched in this year's episodes.

Re: "9 high like a boss" aka "Check your privilege"

I don't think Benger meant anything by "check your privilege." Kassouf had him tilted so badly that he was just spouting whatever words happened to be floating around in his brain. To Kassouf's credit, his strategy was working but he happened to have the nuts.

I do think that Kassouf was good for the TV broadcast. The WSOP broadcasts are boring without characters. He is probably bad for poker in the long run since people like that at your table will drive fish/casuals away.

Re: "9 high like a boss" aka "Check your privilege"

I'm no fan of Kassouf, but Benger, Josephy and Vayo (especially Vayo) really come off like jerks n the last few episodes.

I have no doubt that Josephy winning would be good for the game, but it's pretty hard not to root for Hallaert or Ruane to win at this point.

It was horrible tv, I couldn't imagine you could make 30bb poker more boring. I can't imagine who it would appeal to. Poker has lost its intrigue and charisma

I'm struggling to come up with a single reason why any one of the nine winning would be 'good for poker'.

The best thing for poker exposure was Kassouf. It's also for the best that he didn't make the FT as unedited Kassouf is .truly unwatchable.

Re: "9 high like a boss" aka "Check your privilege"

Once again shot clock would solve a lot of these issues re tanking. Also players should call the clock faster if a player is repeatedly tanking, if you're playing for stacks or facing a postflop raise or whatever tanking is fine. Tanking for a minute to fold 92o UTG is not. I'd actually be okay with a rule along the lines of 'if a player tanks for over 120 seconds last to act in a HU pot and folds, their cards are automatically shown'. Gets rid of hollywooding, and since cards will be shown players know that the tanking is legitimate - and if it becomes excessive, call the clock. If a player repeatedly turns over air in these spots, then give them a warning about stalling then a penalty if it continues.

Also people should be able to say whatever they want without revealing their hole cards and without being abusive to other players when in a HU pot, that's poker, forcing players to sit in silence and 'not try and influence action' is not, of course I should be able to recommend that my opponent call or fold, the whole idea is you're meant to be able to mess with your opponents head and similarly they should be able to try and interpret any info you say to get a read

Also, I hope Benger finishes 9th today.

Re: "9 high like a boss" aka "Check your privilege"

^ The trouble is they could be considering raising the 92o as a bluff (if successful to show and shout "9 high like a boss!") so they could have a "legitimate" reason to tank.

If it's all-in then I agree though I don't think it would solve enough of the problem.

I still say though - the fact that you might be able to make a better decision with 6 minutes to think rather than 1 minute to think - well any advantage you gain is just at the expense of your opponent - so if anything those two factors cancel out and they certainly don't add up to a good enough reason to make the other 7 players miss a couple of hands.

Re: "9 high like a boss" aka "Check your privilege"

After watching a lot of the final table yesterday, the faster play is way better for the game in the later stages of the ME.

Kassouf is one of those types I'd enjoy watching espn cover early until around the bubble or even a deeper day 5 run with an excruciating beat/cooler in the earlier years of ME coverage.

Once the stakes go up and we're getting into the meat of the tournament, keep the talk sure, but cut the tanking

Re: "9 high like a boss" aka "Check your privilege"

late to this thread and not gonna scroll back through it to find out but-

has anybody itt raised the issue of griffin benger being accused of multi-accounting/ghosting horses with shyam srinivasan like it was in the "boo i see a ghost" thread in MTTC many months ago?

that "check your privilege" line has to be one of the most cringeworthy things i've ever seen. also just lol at giving 18 minutes to this guy who has a reputation for excessive tanking. online players take heat for being socially awkward basement dwellers or w/e but goddamn so many live pros are just so ****ing weird. like seriously, how is this dude allowed to tank for 18 minutes on a preflop decision? just lol, no words

this, all the backpatting of niwinski and circle jerking about dumb **** was nauseating.

i understand that this is all edited a certain way but everybody came off looking really petty and spineless. terrible coverage.

Thats just as bad that those are the first words that comes into his head when he is in an argument.

To his credit he admitted he wasn't thrilled with his behaviour, I would like to see him apologize to Kassouf though.

People should lay off him in twitter as well.
