I don't get why people think he's out of line. He's begging her to fold, and it's her bad she can't see that.

Personally I love these guys giving away info, even if they are annoying.

I play with Will at the Vic.

I like his talk as it gives away more than it costs me in focus.

I almost feel like anyone that won't play live poker because of something they saw on TV is the same kind of person that will quit playing poker because their AA lost to some guys 73o. Also perhaps more people will start playing because of what they saw and how much fun Kassouf was having (which is the point of poker for most people)

While I understand the point that people are trying to make about him taking it too far, we are all grown adults that are gambling for real money. If you can't handle a friendly little table talk then maybe you should stay at the bingo hall.

We've all dealt with the Kassouf types, it's how you handle it that sets you apart from the others. She clearly failed and should be embarrassed that she let his talk get to her, being she's a "professional" and all.

I also think gender played a significant role.

PS...I found the "Alright, Alright, ALRIGHT!!!" guy much more annoying than Kassouf. Dude was clearly an attention seeking douchebag from Austin.

exactly.

It's his taking forever to fold that would get under my skin. But maybe that's just cause he's after TV time.

Didn't see anything wrong with it. Kassouf was the least douchey of the bunch. If you don't want to have his talk affect you, then don't engage with him and concentrate on the task at hand, figuring out whether to call or fold. Just block him out, it is not that hard to do, really.

I like the way Jason Les handled him. He knew he had a massive edge on the guy and decided not to tap the glass.

Surprised no one has mentioned how horribly Stacy Matuson played her AA bust out hand. On a KKx board that's an easy fold!

Not sure if serious, but if so maybe you should rewatch.

If Kassouf is reading this, damn good play mate and Effel get the **** out here. If only you knew, you work for the players at the series not the corporate bureaucrats that will cut you loose at a moments notice.
You are delusional about the business of poker.

Yes, it is not a "kitchen table" game on that video. Nor is it your game to run. Get together a couple of million and market/host your own tournament, the way YOU prefer ... or do you lack the cojones to operate a poker business ?

So he got a one orbit penalty, after the cutesy "hand gestures/what did I do ?" Big deal, he got over it; you should also.

Unfortunately I have been confronted with Norm Chad's repeated inanities for far longer than a decade, going back to when he was supposed to be a humorous sportswriter in DC.

"His biggest comic theme in both sportswriting and poker commentary is his frequent references to his 'failed marriages'.... His poker commentary often includes terms such as "squadoosh" (zero/nothing, e.g., a weak hand) and "whamboozled" (to be knocked out of a tournament). He also utters various humorous phrases whenever he mentions a player's alma mater. The phrase is almost always, "I believe they are the..." finished with an unusual college nickname, such as Demon Deacons or Ragin Cajuns."

Same tune every day, like "makin' copies", except Chad's shtick is supposedly funny in and of itself.

Kassouf tilts the living crap out of me. I dont think its good etiquette to keep repeating the same thing over and over and over again when the other player thinks about calling an all in. I get it, you show I show, friendly table yada yada... stfu and let me make my decision, you dont need to repeat it 20 times and then make gestures! It was not friendly talk as he claimed, it was meant to annoy, abuse and discomfort the opponent and actually prevent her from making a decision. Anyone saying this is good for poker is crazy. Do you really think some rec player will be happy about this kind of crap? Is he going to come back and play with this kind of guy? Hell no! It may be good for tv, I give you that. Its always fun watching idiots do stuff on tv. There are games in my town where he would be collecting his teeth from the ground outside the poker club if he behaved like this. I hated how Matuson let him abuse her and did not put this **** talking goblin in his place.

Grunching: Seems to me Effel is slanting his enforcement here toward the woman, for promotional reasons.

His line about the guy named cheater sat next to Sorel mizzi was hilarious but ye needs some new material gimme Gabe Kaplin any day.

As for Kasouf he has tried this **** with me before in the UK and its quite easy to just ignore him and let him give away his hand. Problem is he takes 5 minutes every hand he plays and THATS the main thing that tilts people imo. In 45/60 minute clock events do you really want some loudmouth slowing the game down that much it gets super frustrating.

Same here. He seems like a douche to me. A bit of talk is fine, but he is incessant with it. "Friendly table" my azz....

I am not sure if Kassouf is truly any good for poker. The youtube comments section of WSOP Episodes is full of super-negative comments towards Kassouf with each getting a nuch of likes - and I am assuming that the youtube comment section is made up mostly of recs.

p.s--I am certain I would hate playing with both of them equally, but I can respect what he did more than what she did
Hmm. I'll treat this comment like it's not a wind-up. Generally, I despise people playing the victim card. I'm a little more sympathetic to her than you. She got shown up on a hand that was going to be on TV. Embarrassing. She made the wrong decision in the hand where she could have doubled, (doubly embarrassing) and she felt rushed to that decision. Think she handled it relatively well all things considered. Each of these things on Day 5 of the Main Event would be tilt inducing on their own.

About the only fault, I find in her, is when the guy called clock was her not asking, "Can I just have another minute or so to think, can you please hold off on calling clock now that I can finally think about the hand in quiet?" He probably would have obliged as apparently the other players at the table would have taken up for her, and she could have owned her decision right or wrong. Even then, that's hard to even to know to ask in the moment.

yeah there's table talk and then there's pestering someone. like a kid pestering their parents for a toy and they just keep repeating themselves over and over again. even when he stopped speaking he still kept telling her to fold with mucking hand gestures more than once. i sincerely doubt that players who behave like this guy did will attract new players to the game.
