Playing slow in 50-400k live pots is nothing like what Will Kassouf does - just stop.

A few things and then I have more comments later once I formulate:

1. It's called "table talk" not "speech play" and they are the same thing

2. I think calling the clock in the Matuson and Benger hands was totally justified and also would be OK with the floor calling the clock and reducing it to less than a minute if he continued to be slow with the caveat that thos is the biggest tournament in the world and many decisions are life changing for those involved.

3. Kassouf was definitely good for ratings, got people discussing rules which I like, and people that didn't even play poker were talking about it.

4. IMO Kassouf was annoying (that was his point), definitely quick witted, but I found his banter pretty crap. "Coconuts" and "like a boss" are old terms aren't they?

5. Polk quotes the "Jamie Gold Rule" as being inspiration for not being able to disclose the contents of your own hand but that's not actually true. It was a TDA rule since year one (2001) but they just didn't enforce it vs Gold.

6. Players like Negreanu and Hellmuth definitely talk more and take longer to act when the cameras are on and I am sure that Kassouf is the same.

7. Can you imagine multiple players using the same "table talk" tactics on every table of a tournament? I actually think this would drive players out of the game as slow play already has.

8. Good for TV for sure and good for poker but also bad in some ways too

Just curious, what does it mean for you to "formulate" ?

That's not some euphemism, is it ?

Is "compile" a better word than "formulate" when it comes to my thoughts?

"Formulate" remains perfect; it is the remainder of Matt's sentence that is lacking!

... and "formulate" needs a direct object because it can only be used a transitive verb.

Nice M*A*S*H* reference there...and with a line from perhaps the ONLY person to have been in both the movie AND the series.

While I try to never (or rarely) correct people's grammar in forum posts, I'm always happy to participate once a derail of an already wacky thread has started, because there's never enough grammar talk IMO.

Granted it was 2008 but the rules were the same back then (post Jamie Gold) so far as I understand with reference to disclosing your hand and taunting an opponent.

Phil served no penalty.

According to the TDA website bio , surprise .......that TD in 2008 would have been Jack Effel:

"Jack returned in 2006 as the WSOP co-tournament director and has served as the sole tournament director since 2007."

(Anyone recognize the floor guy who appears in the video ?)

That would be "Red Bull Robbie" and Phil WAS given a penalty for calling him an idiot multiple as it was the last hand or second to the last hand of the night. The penalty was rescinded overnight and Phil served no penalty.
