Benger: I definitely kind of just snapped because he was badgering me and badgering me, and I probably projected some things onto him.

Benger: It’s weird -- I’m looking forward to seeing it, but I’m not particularly proud of the way that I reacted. I certainly felt proud at the time, especially with the other people at the table, like Gordon Vayo, who I think said, “You’re my hero for doing that.” I’m a huge superhero fan, and it kind of played into this superhero complex.

Benger: I think the fact that I did react the way I did is a testament to the stuff that he does, that it works in some ways.

Benger: There’s not a lot of time to breathe and reflect when you’re playing the main event. You’re playing 10, 12 hours a day and you’re not getting a lot of sleep … you kind of hear things peripherally, and you have to make judgments about what’s going on. Based on the coverage I’ve seen, and upon reflection, he isn’t nearly as bad as I thought he was at the time.

What is the context of Benger telling Kassouf to "check your privilege"?

After watching that I feel he needs to check himself more than anyone else.

Hopefully, one positive by-product of that display is how pathetic virtue-signalling SJWs and those that use expressions like "check your privilege" really are.

Since the topic has shifted to Griffin Benger's judgment and social justice warrior mentality, what Griffin pulled on twitter to apokerplayer/Zach Elwood last week is definitely noteworthy.

Zach discussed over a series of tweets the sexual allegations made against Trump. My take and recollection of the tweets was that Elwood was critical of Trump and said he thought the allegations were true. He did offer a balanced comment that claims in general would be taken more seriously if the people making them do so quickly instead of waiting which seems reasonable.

Griffin retweeted one of Zach's tweets and misrepresented Zach's stance by putting an inaccurate summary of the comments in quotes as if it was Zach's and giving the impression Zach was critical of women who don't report assault immediately.

It was a pretty shady thing to do to pull one tweet out of a series, in which Zach was coming down on the accuser in the series, and using this one tweet and twisting it to somehow make it fit his agenda. Griffin sent it to his followers and got to pat himself on the back so they got to think he's a great guy for being anti-sexual assault as if that's an edgy stance. This came at the cost of course of having to misrepresent what Zach said and publicly shame him and set him up as Griffin did.

I think all of this plays into Griffin's misguided superhero complex/social justice warrior mentality.

In stressful situations people show how they really are.

Kassouf had a strategy not a pretty one I admit, but he never lost his grace and poker have new hero.

Say what you want about Kassouf. tanking - yes. annoying - probably. rule breaking - maybe?. But he never abused anyone from what I could see. Benger just came out of this like a complete dick. I hope he busts out in 9th, KK into AA. Should be ashamed of himself.

grunch after watching last night

1) As consumer of poker TV.... I'm a HUGE Kassouf fan !!

2) Benger came off pretty horrid. Regardless of situation in that hand, Bengerhad lost all emotional control in his tirade against Boss man in last hand. Hard to win at poker with low levels of emotional intelligence.

3) MOST IMPORTANTLY. On what planet does Benger not deliver the most EPIC slow roll of ESPN/WSOP coverage on that last hand? If his head wasn't all turned upside down by Kassouf strat, then he would have thought through the situation more carefully and done the obvious thing. SLOWWWW ROLLLLLLL wit dem aces !!!!!!!

4) Felt bad for boss man, but cooler was perfect ending to the story (only thing missing was the most obv slow roll of all time or even better, K on the river )

Self-righteousness aside, I can at least understand an allegation of verbal abuse when he'd just been talking at him and not getting a response for 15 mins. But "check your privilege" is just laughable. My guess is he doesn't even know where this term originates from or what is meant by it. If he did I feel like he would realize how much of a joke it becomes when you say it at a poker table full of white men. Alternatively, maybe not.
