A lawyer once told me that our court system has as much in common with justice as a hot dog does with a labradoodle puppie.

As someone who lives in Los Angeles were the stats say crime is not increasing I can tell you that the stats do not tell the story. We have decriminalized much so that results in an automatic decrease in crime due to semantics; however, the bigger issue is most crimes are not being investigated or prosecuted so people just stop reporting them.

As someone who thinks the entire criminal justice system needs to be burned to the ground (ie defunding the police is only a start) I wish we were actually seeing progress, but ask any resident of a major city if they are seeing more crime in their city and most would say yes.

If victims did not want to testify use surveillance and get one to testify and put him away for 45 effective life for justice then. Disgusting how he claims the high road and intoxication/mental health and that floats with a .16 and the wslcb laws coming first and how lazy prosecutors and the state justice system consistently are. I hear for example the sexual assault years long backlog of kits and cases finally got “cleared up” by the “justice” system up there too.
America has the most prisoners per capita compared to any other first or even second world country and its not even close. They have the strictest and longest sentences as well.

For example, Finland has a maximum sentence of 21 years. This guy murdered 60+ people and only got 21 years:

25 years for this offense seems fine with me. Isn't the point of prison to rehabilitate people?

A point of prison is to rehabilitate people. A point of prison is to protect society from criminals.

I hate engaging with gambling addict idiots on this site who don’t read or think or discuss, just blather off their own political **** and angle to whatever they want to talk about

Thank you. The third point of the justice system is actual justice for all. A feeling of what is right and fair not just for victims but society. Victims deserve to see justice and the liberalism politically corrupt states completely fail at it. In Idaho or even democratic Nevada this man would face certain effective life sentence, maybe because the prosecutors and juries out there get it done, and honestly should be put to death for trying to brutally stab and attempted murder multiple individuals.

Just reading his proud excuses about his .16 blood alcohol level and supposed mental health is an example of non justice.

Imagine reading that related to a victim or a victim, and the terrifying lifelong ptsd the guy in the article talked about recalling the incident, while this man gets to parade in the news and enjoy his ego and life in a cozy WA prison

America should have even more prisoners. Look at what they are doing in NY where people can just loot stores openly and not face any consequences. Thats why "crime is down" in the cities - just decriminalize stuff like shop lifting .- voila! liberal statistics. This also has the added "benefit" of fewer altercations between shop staff and thieves = less violent crime, because the staff know the authorities in these **** holes arent going to do anything about the crime so whats the point getting in trouble trying to stop a criminal.

Our prison system will go down as one of the biggest failures in modern history. Most inmates have serious mental illness or substance abuse issues that are the reason (directly or indirectly) they are incarcerated. Many others are innocent (plenty of examples if you want to do some research) and have lost years of their lives due to dirty cops and prosecutors.

All are in conditions that the public would protest if we saw dogs in the same condition, but the public turns a blind eye under the outdated notion that they deserve it. Research Alabama prisons and you will get an example of this. Even those who deserve to be in prison (and their are plenty) have no chance at rehabilitation.

Our prison system contributes to a high recidivism rate by design. After the inhumane treatment / conditions and the difficulty reintegrating with society many have no viable options.

I think violent crimes need to be prosecuted and worked to recall our Soros-backed prosecutor in Los Angeles (George Gascon), but those are a pretty small portion of the prison population.

I agree in most part. The condition in American prisons does seem horrible, and the support for the mentally ill is basically non existant. Like the guy who shot up the bowling alley in Maine... not excusing his actions obviously... but if I read correctly he himself contacted health/law enforcement about hearing voices about shooting up a military base and about to have a psychotic breakm and somehow nothing happens..

The worst for me is you can get imprisoned for fairly short times for petty stuff like recreational drug use/possession, and then you are thrown into a hell hole where you get zero protection from violent rapists. If you rape someone else IN prison you should be put in solitary for the rest of your time. Certain types seem to believe that the threat of sexual assault is part of the punishment - its constantly mentioned in comment sections on news articles or youtube videos about someone going to jail.

I came across an article that gives several new details in the incident. The attacker had a lenghty police record including numerous convictions for assault. The article also states that there were 5 victims and not 4. And a security officer that attempted to intervene was stabbed.

It also reports the attacker chuckled when being booked. Sounds like quite a guy.
