Both Fedor and Ike highlighted the recreational perspective in those podcast and many times it comes down to the element of "fun" or and a "paying for your entertainment" situation.

If that element is not met then many of those type of players will stop showing up in the game.

Honestly I play across 5 different networks right now but if I was just getting into the game I cannot think of a more entertaining environment than what GGPoker is offering in their software to the player right now. They have room to improve on things and it's not all perfect but to some of the posters above calling Fedor, a sellout, etc are not seeing the forest past the trees.
The issue I'm raising is more that Fedor in particular from the two most recent podcasts (understandably, given his position) failed to acknowledge that there is a conscious choice being made by sites. I'm not going to suggest that sites have any kind of obligation to regulars; of course they don't, every party is just trying to profit. It's just a bit sickening when something is presented as being necessary for the protection of recreationals when that's far from the case.

Optics regarding communication with regs/pros would be far better IMO if sponsored pros were open with saying 'the alternative routes to ensuring recs are protected such as rake reduction for table starters aren't as good for site profitability and therefore Stars/GG/whichever site is choosing not to adopt them' - which is perfectly fine, and anyone who objects to this kind of explanation is a bit daft IMO - rather than spinning nonsense like they do.

Of course, realistically, regulars need to accept that their custom is not something sites have an economic desire to compete for.

Podcast w/ WPT President Adam Pliska is going down tomorrow. I'm very interested to learn more about how they've built a company that respects the players and what they will do now that the coronavirus has changed the way live events will be down the road.

Ask him if he thinks increasing the rake in live tournaments will help soften the fields and eliminate pros.

I was referring to the in-game experience vs innovating on how the game operates itself.

I don't think you can innovate the actual game of NLH itself - but you can on the experience.

Or Barack Obama. I know in person, he made me double-take at least once.

Not sure why he's standing next to Phil Ivey, though.

Really enjoyed and learned a lot from the recent shows, Joey. Thanks so much for continuing to bring on guests who are willing to speak about poker so candidly with your audience.

IMO the unique perspectives your guests bring continue to be super informative.

Personally I feel there is a significant amount of insight into the "business/operator/industry/marketing" side provided by poker world personalities who have appeared on your show and other podcasts (like Adam Pliska, Rob Yong, Alex Scott, Phil Galfond, etc). Insight that is broadly valuable, well-meaning, and communicated by individuals who have been around different aspects of the "poker business" for more than a decade -- in administrative positions.

I know this rarely gets said, but a sincere "thank you" to all the guests who appear on the Poker Life Podcast and other shows to communicate their ideas in such a goodwill, open fashion. For better or worse, there are always going to be conflicting views around poker -- but the vast majority of what your guests bring to the show (whether they're industry insiders, players, or otherwise) is overwhelmingly #GoodForPoker (imo).

Congrats on the great content as always, Joey.

+1 to this. The guests behind the business are the pods that I really tune into. And thanks dhubermex for your help on breaking the pods down.

Thanks David - I remember my initial goal for the podcast was to help get great players who were a bit unknown stories out there and also promote PLO at the same time. I then started transitioning to more NL guests in order to branch out to that world while also still promoting PLO in the process.

I'm trying to figure out what my approach can be for the current iteration of my show. I am the most interested in the poker business side of things right now which is why I like to have guests related to that area of the world on. I don't think those are the most interesting guests to a broader audience but I think they are very valuable people to hear more from for those who are interested in that side of things.

Thank you for the feedback.

Joey seems really comfortable interviewing business people. Maybe even more so than with poker players. I think a reason for this is that professional types don't require perfectly posed questions to give good answers.

I primarily study business, marketing and finance right now so I'm comfortable talking about those topics and asking questions.

Getting back into studying more poker and then combine it to see what takes place. Probably spreading myself a bit thin right now.

New game: drink every time Ryan DePaulo swears. Guaranteed black out. Nah very good podcast by Joey. Please bring on new people (not the standard fedor holz, jungleman, etc).

Meh Ryan DePaulo comes off so douchey. I remember seeing him at a live wsop circuit stop and he’s just taking a picture of his “chip cock” to post on social media . Meh he’s good for the game and bringing fun players but his whole shtick is obnoxious.

Give me some guest suggestions or collab suggestions if you like - it doesn't have to be a full length podcast only. I'm open to any content suggestion that anyone might have. This is the first time I've started to take this more serious and I know that my current strategy isn't very GTO for YT specifically w/ mixing so many formats together. I'll be creating a Final Table type show and I also have the full news style show and PLO game play videos. Going to try a few different things out as I already know what the GTO formats for YT specifically are.

Schedule
Fri 2pm EST - World Poker Tour Founder Steve Lipscomb. Steve founded the WPT back in 2002 and was one of the first poker shows around with hole cards.

Saturday 4pm EST - AllinPav - Pav is one of the top twitch streamers and a PartyPoker sponsored player. Pav has been working on becoming one of the top MTT players in the world for the past couple years now. Looking forward to hearing more about his journey.

Upcoming: Kristen Bicknell and 2p2 endboss Mason Malmuth

I had a full length episode w/ Ryan Depaulo yesterday w/ timestamps in the video description
