Caesars Palace has $150 tournaments about every three hours throughout the day starting at 9:00 am.

Depending on the number of entrants, these tournaments take 2 1/2 to 3 hours to complete. 20-minute rounds.

The house collects $40 per person and in a 50 player event that's a $2000 fee for a three-hour tournament.

seems brutal to you or me, but ......

If they run, what's the beef with those players wanting to pay some extra juice to play in them.

It's not like there aren't other live tournaments around that cost spread for a better price in Las Vegas.

You are paying $40 for a couple of hours of entertainment in Las Vegas. That’s what those tournaments are about, tourists having some fun and getting ‘playing poker in Vegas’ off their bucket list. If you care about stuff like rake and RIO, you’re in the wrong place there.

Because people are happy to pay it doesn't make it any less brutal

People thought it was bad paying $50 on a $300 tourney that took 8 hours. The 'turbo' nature of these 150 tournaments is twice as criminal IMO.

In a roundabout way, Zach Galifanakis is to blame for this rake percentage.

Don't most low-buy-in dailies have rakes in that ballpark? Bellagio's $130 is something like $100 to the prize pool, $30 to the house. Bally's $100 is $75+15. Aria's $140 is $110+30. Binions $125 is $100+25.

In my area, I think Thunder Valley's $60 is a $45+15, Stones $100 is $85+15, TV's Sunday $100 is $80+20. On the flip side, one of them local rooms (I think it might be Jackson Rancheria) has a $58+2, which is the lowest I've ever heard of anywhere -- so much so that I wonder if I just have incorrect intel.

madlex has it right: ultimately, you're talking about recs paying for a half-day of entertainment that happens to contain a small chance of a decent prize. Hell, I'm one of them. The buy-in for a daily isn't all that much different than paying for a day at an amusement park or a concert ticket, only the latter two have almost zero possibility of scoring a prize at the end of it.

Poor guy... ECB could ship the Main, and around here, that one thread would remain his claim to fame.

That rake is to keep the pros out.

More rake = less pro's playing = overall better for the game.

If you're a 200% player, you'll make $260 per tournament, long term. 300-40 = 260

If you're a 100% player, you'll make $110 per tournament, long term. 150-40 = 110

100% on top of the rake, yes. To see how idiotic that is you can just make it $149 rake and $1 to the prize pool. Now it's impossible to even make 100% ROI.
