I'm a very casual poker player who just plays home games and occasional donkament, and watch the ME yearly. This is the first time signing into this forum account in 10+ years. As I was watching this year, I signed up for GTO Wizard and had thoughts about studying and playing in the WSOP next year, since I'm semi-retiring from my career.

All of those thoughts went out the window after seeing Tamayo's rail and coaching. No desire to participate and compete against people backed by coaches. Anyway, that's all, bye!
Just play The System from this book, renders coaches, solvers & GTO worse than useless.

Rail should be sequestered and the part of it that players can interact with should be a strictly enforced no phone/device zone. Would fix a lot of the live coaching.

The comparison to other sports with coaches misses the point. Poker has always been like that - if you have a smart player in your rail you could go and ask for some advice between hands. But with GTOWizard etc nowadays you aren't really asking 'your smart friend/coach', you are asking a solver for advice. Which breaks the rules that the WSOP have of 'no checking solvers while playing'. The rule is circumvented too easily with rails. There's a reason you aren't allowed to talk to other people while playing in games like chess - it would just become a battle of being the best at finding ways of quickly checking solves and applying them as close to real time as possible.

Side note. Two terrible ME winners in a row now. If you have McKeehan on your rail.. says it all about you.

They could at least try to hide it a little bit.

No way I’d let them sit there with laptop ablaze

And he has been a completely useless ambassador for poker. Like, negative impact if anything. Boring American reg winning leads exactly 0 people into poker, it makes people quit to see someone with Shaun Deeb on his rail win the ME.

Yes, everyone quit poker after Weinman won. That's why there was a record-setting field again this year.

Poker is steadily growing because its a great game. I cant imagine Weinman adding anything at all to the growth of poker. Neither will Tomoya.

WSOP seriously needs to BAN devices at the rail. This year was pathetic and a shitshow.

Who the Main event champion is does not directly do anything for poker growth as a whole these days, especially with it being off of mainstream TV or news.

A woman winning would be the exception or a winner from Brazil, China, Japan, India for recognition in those countries where poker has potential to explode more.

But pretty much any American male winning doesn’t move the needle much these days no matter who it is.

i somewhat agree

if i was a newb/amateur watching this on TV i would be saying to myself how unfair it is that tomayo has a whole team of people there letting him know after every hand/decision was it the correct choice etc

might not be telling him through the hand etc what to do but if you are new to the game you wouldnt be saying to yourself that looks fun.

Having the laptop open running sims right on the rail was pretty shameless. At least keep it confined to breaks. Hopefully it’s addressed before it becomes the norm. The comparison to sports doesn’t make sense because in sports the athlete still has to physically perform.

The tournament was huge this year based on three factors. monster run up on crypto, new highs on Wall Street, housing market soaring. A ton of cash is floating around.

haha this guy had his rail set up a rig of computers and run sims so hard the lightning flickered in the building so he could walk over to consult with them mid-hand in a live streamed final table? what a chad

Having a friend with a laptop is not an unfair advantage, because everyone can have friends with laptops.

do u honestly believe that ?

A random fun player wouldnt probably even know what sims/ICM/ RTO etc mean let alone have friends who could assist in this way.

This is exactly why online poker is screwed cos people think its ok to do this - its like saying its ok to cheat cos they can cheat too...

Didn't some get flamed online and yelled at by the floor for running a SIM during a tourney while not in a hand just a couple weeks ago?

Yea these factors will outweigh whoever wins the main every year, I totally agree. But the point was just that Weinman winning added 0. As opposed to female winner, brazilian winner etc or non pro winning, factors that would all have way more positive weight.

Issues like equal access to sophisticated players on your rail, etc. are all valid, but are also kind of beside the point. If tournaments forbid the use of solvers by a player at the table, there need to be steps taken to forbid solvers on the rail.
