"The World Series of Poker will return later this month in a hybrid online and live event.

WSOP announced plans early Friday to host 2020’s hybrid online and live version of the $10,000 No-Limit Hold-Em World Championship, known better to poker players and fans as the Main Event. It will begin for international players on Sunday, Nov. 29, and domestically on Sunday, Dec. 13.

Because of travel restrictions and out of an abundance of caution for player safety, this year’s format will be unique, where early play will begin online with one entry on WSOP.com or GGPoker.com, before shifting to a live setting for final table action on two continents."

"The tournament will be paused when play hits the final table, with the final nine players traveling to Las Vegas for the TV taping and culmination of the tournament to take place Dec. 28 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, subject to applicable regulatory approval."

No live WSOP in Vegas this year prop bets (presumably a lot of which have already been paid out) should be fun to sort out now!

Not really unless you had some kind of drunken yes/no handshake agreement.

I had a couple bets that have already been settled/paid and that event isn’t even remotely close to anything that was considered “live WSOP in Las Vegas” under the terms of the bets.

i don't think there's much of a discussion either ... it's not even a full event

Seems like relatively short notice. I just don’t feel excited for this right now like I normally do when it comes around in July. Seems....meh.

Starting chips: 60,000

Blind Levels Time : 30 min

Late Reg : 6 hours 0 minutes

Level SB BB Ante Gap
1 100 200 50
2 125 250 25 50
3 150 300 30 50
4 175 350 35 50
5 200 400 40 100
6 250 500 50 100
7 300 600 60 200
8 400 800 80 200

10 600 1,200 120 400
11 800 1,600 160 400

Here is a portion of the structure. Can someone explain what this Gap is? I have never seen this. Is there a player ante and a BB extra ante?

Might be the easiest it will ever be to win main event for Americans.
Theyre going to have the US winner play the international winner heads up for the title.
Might not have as many players to get through since you will only be able to play in America in 3 states.

Of course, a lot of people might think that and there will end up being 20,000 people playing in America.

But still, if theyre combining the prize pool, it seems possible that americans could have a huge edge here lol. This cant be right.

No way it will play out where theres 7,000 international players and 1000 US players that make up the prize pool and they split it like normally.
If so, i might play this year.

A VPNer could end up playing heads up against himself

I read it as two tournaments, separate pools.
Winner of each tournament plays heads up match for WSOP.com/GGP supplied prize.

And the "Gap" just seems to be the jump of the BB to the next level.

Cut and paste from a spreadsheet by someone who doesn't know poker?

I'm confused. What if an American wants to play but lives in one of the many states that does not allow real money online poker?

They have to Travel to NV, NJ or Delaware to play.

Kind of figured that. Thanks. This event sounds like it will be fraught with issues. People complaining about bots, collusion and the like. IMO it's really best to just bite the bullet, cancel, and in the words of every Cubs fan 'wait till next year'.

I could be wrong but AFAIK there is no problem with bots on WSOP. As far as collusion, its a random draw tournament with 1000's of players, not sure why you would be worried about that. Most collusion would happen on high stakes cash games.

I’m guessing he’s mostly concerned with the fact that it is much easier to cheat online than it is live. VPNs, charts, Skype, ghosting, bots, HUDs (if considered a cheat), etc.

I don't know if VPN is even possible, if caught your buy in would be forfeited anyway. Using charts for online play isn't against any rules. Hud's are not possible with the WSOP software.

I am sure there might be some way to do it. Whatever.

Meh

If more states could give it a shot, would be sick.

Just was reading the FAQ for the hell of it. Says if you test positive for Covid you are DQd and receive the minimum payout at the final table lol.

Imagine if you tested positive and had no symptoms, chip lead and they give you 9th

Considering you would be winning a few 100k for 9th likely, it would suck but it wouldn't be the worst. If you make final 9 you can afford a top grade mask for your travel and be extra careful about using hand sanitizer etc.

Right but im saying leading up could catch it or have a false positive.
Also I don’t think it’ll be a few 100k tbh. I really don’t expect the numbers to be very high considering it’s only NV and NJ to play.

How many players do you really think will enter this?
400? 500?

500 is 4.8M prize pool

9th would be approx 67k with first netting you 1M

I don’t see any sattys posted yet, but with 30 days to go I assume they must get listed soon

It says only one entry either on GG or WSOP. If you hypothetically could play both the GG and WSOP versions, it would be possible to do so without VPN as they are on different days.

I know charts aren’t against the rules but I’m pretty sure they aren’t allowed during live play while you’re in a hand. So I guess it’s technically not cheating but not as....pure? (for lack of a better word)...as live play.

On GGP You'll have to use your real name, so it will be obvious if the same person enters twice (Which is not allowed)

Yes. It would be insane to do anything different.

I assume they will not bring the American and International winner into the HU match with their actual chip counts, though that would actually be fair.

Same thing you have to do every other year - you have to leave our home state and go where the tournament is being held. Only this year it's even easier than normal, because there are more options. (But flying / hotelling is riskier, of course)
